Crazy Concept Motorcycles That We Want To Become Reality
Gear heads have come to expect new concept cars to come out every year, but what about concept motorcycles? While it might feel like all the best ideas are tapped out when it comes to reinventing the car, we've only just begun to stretch the limit on what a motorcycle can be.
Motorcycles have been imagined to fly, float, or even shoot rockets out of either side. While none of the bikes on this list can actually shoot flames or take you into outer space, they are all crazy concept ideas. We may never get to see these bikes turn into reality, but it doesn't hurt to dream. Here are crazy concept motorcycles that we hope actually come to fruition one day.
BMW Vision Next 100
The BMW Vision Next 100 is a motorcycle that was inspired by other BMW motorcycles that have already been launched or are other concept bikes under BMW currently.
If the name doesn't give away the idea for the bike well enough, the Vision Next 100 can give BMW motorcycle enthusiasts a taste of what they can expect from their favorite brand in the next few years. Hopefully, BMW decides to stay down this path when thinking of designs for their next release.
Wojtek Bachleda's Indian Motorcycle Concept
A popular trend of bikes in India is a retro look which is why the Wojtek Bachleda's Indian Motorcycle Concept bike is sure to stand out from the crowd.
With a more futuristic design, this motorcycle may only be something that we can ever see driving in the future. This design was made by an engineering student and maybe one day we will get to see it on the road.
Ostoure By Mohammad Reza Shojaie
The name of this motorcycle, "Ostoure," means "legend" in Persian which is what the designer was thinking of when they came up with the idea for this bike.
Another futuristic trend, this motorcycle almost looks like it could be floating on air and the black colors used on the body of the bike set it off just perfectly. The designer drafted the suspension to reduce the size of the radiator which also transforms its look.
Yamaha Root Motorcycle Concept
As if they haven't made enough of a footprint on the motorcycle world already, Yamaha has something else up its sleeve.
The Root Motorcycle Concept was designed by some of the engineers at Yamaha and was inspired by - you guessed it, musical instruments and musical concepts. This bike's design is for sure more "out" there than some of the others on this list but if you love music, this concept motorcycle just might be one for you.
AER
Aiming to be the next big thing in the conventional engineering world of racing motorcycles as we know it, the AER is way ahead of its time. The designer of this motorcycle claims that this bike is the electric two-wheeler that the biking world didn't know it needed.
While the AER was originally designed as a motorcycle that was exclusively made for the track, there is a good chance that it could be mass-produced for everyday riders as well.
Victory Combustion Concepts
This motorcycle wanted to take everything great about American muscle cars and put that into a motorcycle that everyone could drive. The Victory Combustion Concept was designed by Zach Ness in the late 2010s and was inspired by the prototype of the "Project 156" V-twin that was built by Roland Sands and raced at Pikes Peak in 2017.
Ness wanted the bike to have proportion, shape, color, and form that resembled that of an American muscle car.
L-Concept – Bandit9
Launched in the spring of 2018, the L-Concept Bandit9 is a concept motorcycle that may never see the light of day but is still pretty cool to look at.
While some audiences think that the overall appearance of the bike is a hard pill to swallow, others see it as something new and fresh in the face of traditional motorcycle body styles. Inspired by Star Trek, if you aren't really into space fantasy, then the L-Concept Bandit9 may not be the concept bike for you.
Honda CB4 Interceptor
The Honda CB4 Interceptor is one of the few concept motorcycles on this list that has all the potential to actually make it available to buyers. Honda has tried to keep rumors of this motorcycle under wraps but it was leaked out and now enthusiasts can't get enough.
Some of the features of the CB4 Interceptor include having a single LED headlight with a surrounding fan that manipulates kinetic energy to bring power to the rest of the motorcycle.
Expemotion's E-Raw
While electric motorcycles haven't found their stride like electric automobiles just yet, the Expemotion's E-Raw concept just might be one of the motorcycles that spark the overall movement.
The intentions of the bike are good but may not be completely practical. Designers of the motorcycle claim that the E-Raw's seat is made from laminated wood and the frame is simplistically designed. One of the most controversial features of the E-Raw is how riders can view the speedometer which is rumored to be through an app.
The Samurai
As quick and quiet as the legendary warriors it is named after, the Samurai motorcycle concept came from Japanese designers.
Seeking to make a motorcycle that is a piece of art both inside and out, the designers of the Samurai have meticulously crafted and thought out every inch of the motorcycle to make it the most efficient thing on the road. Hopefully, it can gain enough traction to make a prototype so we can see it someday.
The Brigade
One of the few motorcycles on this list that was designed not only for everyday drivers, the Brigade was designed for law enforcement as well. The idea for the Brigade comes from the mind of Charles Bombardier, a man known for his over the top ideas and concepts.
One of his other designs is the Interceptor which is marketed as a self-driving cop bike. Maybe one day, the need for the Brigade will grow so that it isn't just a concept.
BMW IR
As companies and manufacturers of all kinds are trying to take steps to make products that are more environmentally friendly, we can only speculate that more and more electric and eco-friendly bikes will come out in the next few years.
The BMW IR is a concept minimalist motorcycle that was made without a fuel tank. It has rims that have a large gap between the spokes so that the motorcycle doesn't consume much energy. As the race for more sustainable products ramps up, this is something that would be amazing if it came to life.
Harley Davidson's Modification of the LiveWire
Another electric and eco-friendly motorcycle on this list, the LiveWire isn't a brand new bike but is instead an improvement to a pre-existing motorcycle, the LiveWire.
If the motorcycle was ever mass-produced then it would be Harley-Davidson's first electric motorcycle. As one of the biggest motorcycle brands in the world, if the LiveWire became popular it could spark a bigger movement for electric motorcycles on the road.
The Mono Race
Not a crazy concept of a motorcycle, the Mono Race is one of the most every day looking bikes on this list. For the most part, the motorcycle doesn't feature any outlandish attributes; it isn't necessarily fast nor does it have body styling that makes it too different from others on the market now.
What makes this bike special is the fact that it is the new kid on the block and would bring a fresh face to a sometimes stale motorcycle market.
Yamaha Motoroid
With a name like Motoroid, you can almost tell that the vehicle is something that you might find in a movie like Back to the Future.
Yamaha wants to make sure that they are always staying out in front of advanced motorcycle trends and the Motoroid is the peak of some of the latest motorcycle concepts and tech available. The Motoroid is AI-powered and has a lot of built-in self-driving features to give the driver the ultimate connection with the bike.
BMW Titan
BMW, known for making luxury products of all types has a concept motorcycle called the Titan. Claimed to be overly luxurious, the Titan has a body style that is inspired by one of the biggest and fastest predators on Earth, the Great White Shark.
Though not much more information about the specifics of the bike have been released or leaked out yet, we can only assume that whatever the bike has, it will be glorious.
Kawasaki J-Concept
Another Kawasaki concept motorcycle, Kawasaki brought this concept up not only once in 2013 but also again in 2018 with upgrades to the 2013 concept model.
If that doesn't give riders a reason to believe that this bike will be more than a concept one day then nothing will work. Rumored to be offered in a variety of colors, the driver of the motorcycle will also have a chance to choose if they want the seat in a crouched position or a more upright position.
BMW Urban Racer
Taking credit for the design of this motorcycle, this wouldn't be the first bike that Jans Slapins has made for BMW. A color motorcycle that is loud and luxurious, the BMW Urban Racer is for that driver who wants everybody to see him on the road.
Rumored to have a 1200 cc boxer engine, the Urban Racer would have an engine that's in line with some of the fastest production bikes on the market.
The Night Shadow – Barend Massow Hemmes
The Night Shadow is one of the most unique concept motorcycles on this list. Designed by Barend Massow Hemmes, the Night Shadow really is one of a kind with its unique body style.
Inspired to make a motorcycle that is futuristic and that also has a bold appearance, the London designer plans on having a 1200 cc engine in the bike so that is can go fast as well. Maybe one day, the Night Shadow will step out into the daylight so that we can all appreciate it.
Yamaha Morpho
One of the older concept motorcycles on this list, the Yamaha Morpho would still be a sight to see if it was created today. The 1990s was a high time for creativity among the R & D teams of larger manufacturers and the Morpho was one of the bikes that was imagined up by designers and engineers during that time.
It had a hub-center steering wheel and about everything on the bike was easily adjustable so the driver could make the bike fit and feel how they want.
Suzuki Falcorustyco
Debuted at the 1985 International Toyko Motor Show, the Suzuki Falcorustyco wanted to paint what the future of motorcycles would look like with this concept bike. The bike had Tron-like inspired wheels and supposed to be futuristic and more advanced.
During an interview, some of the engineers who worked on the Flacorustyco mentioned that the motorcycle may be something that they may revive and revisit in the future though it hasn't been seen since the 1980s.
Yamaha Tilting Tesseract Concept
One of the obvious features of this concept motorcycle is the fact that it is on four wheels instead of two (doesn't that just make it a car?) Designed to catch your attention, this tilting tesseract concept bike may have a harder time getting accepted by the vast majority of purists who believe that the bikes should only have two wheels.
The four wheels on the bike move independently from one another and are close enough together that they still fit the rough size of the motorcycle's width.
Yamaha PED2
A simple design, the Yamaha PED2 is another electric motorcycle concept that was designed for the future. It has a monocoque structure and is lightweight and made to be able to ride on almost surface type.
At a rumored 220 pounds, the PED2 could have had an electric motor on the front wheel hub but maybe Yamaha has other plans for the front instead or wanted to keep the weight of the bike low. As electric bikes slowly become more popular, maybe the PED2 can come back.
Yamaha PES2
The PES2 concept bike might be one that is ahead of its time but is something that the market can use in the face of ever-growing electric transportation options. Focused for mostly driving on the road, the PES2 may not fair well on off roads or inclement weather.
The Yamaha PES2 is rumored to have a lithium-ion battery and will be powered DC brushless motors, one for the rear and one for the front of the motorcycle. Though it has sharp angles and a heavy battery, the total weight for the PES2 comes in at 286 pounds.
Honda Grom50 Scrambler Concept-Two
Though the color scheme of the Honda Grom50 Scrambler Concept-Two might remind you of the holiday season, the color is actually an homage to the company that designed the concept bike, Big Red.
The Grom50 was introduced as a concept motorcycle in 2015 at the International Tokyo Motor Show and includes hints of carbon fiber on its rear fender as well as an LED headlight and LED turn signals though none of that information has yet to be confirmed.
Honda Grom50 Scrambler Concept-One
The Grom model has long been customized by bikers and professionals for years. As a beloved minibike of the community, everybody wants to show their love for the bike in different lights.
The Honda Grom50 Scrambler Concept-One is ready for the dirt track and is equipped with gravel-ready tires, a skid plate and spoked wheels that make it more capable of winning the race. The 2019 Honda Monkey has some of the Grom50's design traits so this bike might be coming to all of us sooner than we think.
Honda Super Sports Concept
Though Honda wouldn't be the first company to put the words "Super Sport" after the name of something, they would be the only ones who can do it with the same amount of quality and reliability that we have all come to expect from Honda.
The Super Sport has sharp bodywork, detailed graphics and is overall more aggressive than some of its Honda model counterparts. Luckily, Honda took everything that made this bike amazing and gave us the Honda CBR250RR.
Ducati XDiavel-based draXter
One of the few Ducati concept bikes on this list, the Ducati XDiavel-based draXter was conceived in the Advanced Design department of Ducati.
It has brakes and suspension from Panigale and it has Pirelli rubber sprinkled all over it to give it a few yellow accents here and there. When Ducati celebrated its 90th anniversary, they created the XDiavel which this model was based on and added a 90 to the front of it for the anniversary year.
Honda NP6-D Scooter
Over 14 years ago at the 2005 International Tokyo Motor Show, the concept NP6-D scooter debuted to the world. It looks like something out of this world with its unique headlight cluster and seating arrangement. We definitely can't say it isn't it is eye-catching.
The theme for Honda was "Dream Wings" which was supposed to capture the motorcycling lifestyle that was inspired to help people pursue and achieve their dreams.
Victory Core Concept
Although Victory is a closed company so the chances of this bike ever coming to fruition are slim to none, the Victory Core Concept made it to this list because it was still an awesome concept bike.
It had a cast aluminum frame and it exposed it essentials like the engine, frame, wheels, front suspension and the seat of the Core was made of African mahogany. During an interview, it was said that this bike was meant to be elemental and fierce.
BMW/RSD Concept 101
A concept bike that was made for long cross-country trips, the BMW/RSD Concept 101 was a collaboration tourer motorcycle designed by Roland Sands Design and BMW.
The 101 has a 6-cylinder engine that is considered state of the art and is cleverly engraved with the phrase, "The Spirit of the Open Road" down its side. Overall the bike has a great balance and was made using wood, aluminum with carbon fiber accents and was last seen in 2017.
Ural Electric Prototype
Known for making stand out and wacky models, the Ural Electric Prototype is the manufacturer's first attempt at making an all-electric sidecar. Being the first all-electric bike for the company, Ural first reached out to some other motorcycle brands including Zero Motorcycles and ICG for some additional assistance.
The Ural Electric Prototype is rumored to have 60 horsepower at 5,300 rpm and 81 pound-feet of torque though it is optimized for a low center of gravity and stability.
BMW Autonomous R 1200 GS
The BMW Autonomous R 1200 GS is the self-driving CES concept bike that grabbed tons of attention. Alongside companies like Honda, BMW wants to make models that propel the entire motorcycle industry into something new.
One of the neat features of the 1200 GS is its self-driving capabilities which allow it to start, stop, turn, accelerate and slow down without even having a rider onboard. While this may turn off drivers who would rather handle and steer their bike themselves, for those looking for the newest in motorcycle tech, the BMW Autonomous R 1200 GS is the bike to watch out for.
Honda Self-Balancing Technology
A motorcycle that could self-balance has large technological potential that can be used for all bikes to make them safer and easier to ride. Displayed at the 2017 CES event, this concept was recently something that was only imagined in futuristic sci-fi movies and now it is an actual possibility.
One of the things that Honda did at CES was have the motorcycle follow someone out of the building on its own to prove how the technology works and show some of the things that you can do with it.
BMW R18
Mostly for the art-deco, the BMW R18 pays homage to art and motorcycle lovers all over. The BMW R18 gets its name from the size of its engine which is a 1,800 cc that has the driveshaft uncovered.
Though the engine itself has been seen before in models like the "Departed" and the "Birdcage", never before has the model been shown on a bike with so much pizzaz as the R18. BMW is known for using custom concept motorcycles to show the world some of its technology that has yet to come, so the BMW R18 could be foreshadowing something we will see in the future.
BMW Vision DC Roadster
The BMW Vision DC Roadster is one of BMW's first electric motorcycle concept bikes but it was not, and will not be the last. The Vision DC doesn't include the boxer flat-twin and instead has a lateral width that would mimic the normal internal combustion architecture.
A futuristic concept motorcycle, the BMW Vision DC Roadster didn't have a gas tank, which made this model the perfect cross between what we traditionally expect from BMW as well as what we can expect from them in the future.
Honda CB125X
A rally motorcycle, the Honda CB125X had small-bore, spoked wheels and a body style that only further confirmed that this motorcycle was made for the rough terrain.
The front end of the motorcycle looked very similar to the CRF at the time as it had clutch-side brake calipers. Though the Honda CB125X was was only just revealed in the past few years, it isn't likely that we will see this motorcycle on the road anytime soon.
Aprilia RS 660
The Aprilia RS 660 concept motorcycle was built to be solid and stable. It is said to have a twin-cylinder engine that was nestled on an aluminum frame. The concept bike gets its name from its engine which is a 660 cc parallel-twin engine derived from the Tuono V4 and RSV4 1100 Factory V-4 power plant.
Aprilia, known for making some of the most beloved motorcycles on the market, caught a lot of eyes with this concept motorcycle and we all hope that this a bike that we will see on the road someday.
Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 Aero
A concept motorcycle that looks more like a spaceship than a motorcycle, the Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 Aero would be perfect for your next trip to a new planet.
In 2017 when the Svartpilen and Vitpilen were released, Husqvarna kept true to the prototypes that were released of the bike previously. Husqvarna fans and bikers alike are all waiting to see what they are going to do with this new model now that the concept bike is out.
Honda CB125M Concept
A star of the 2018 EICMA show, the Honda CB125M Concept was a huge hit for Honda enthusiasts and the media. The CB125M has small bores, 17-inch forged wheels, an SC-Project exhaust, and slick tires as well as solid brake discs.
While the Honda CB125M has a more minimalistic appearance in comparison to some of the other bikes on this list, it caught everybody's attention because it is one of the few bikes that we could see going from concept to the road.
