These Celebrities Had Babies When They Were Just Teenagers
When famous teens get pregnant, it usually becomes international news. Most of these celebs had babies before they got famous, so their teen pregnancies didn't become tabloid scandals. It can be really difficult to raise a kid when you're still just a kid yourself. These celebs know the struggle first hand.
Anna Nicole Smith
Anna Nicole Smith married Billy Wayne Smith in 1985 when she was just 17. She gave birth to her son Daniel exactly 9 months later (which isn't suspicious at all).
Anna Nicole and Billy separated in 1987. Her daughter, Dannielynn, was born in 2006. Unfortunately, Anna Nicole died in 2007 when she was 40 years old.
Fantasia Barrino
American Idol winner Fantasia has had a tough life. She dropped out of high school when she was 16 after being assaulted by a classmate. She was in a tumultuous relationship and got pregnant when she was 16. She gave birth to Zion Quari Barrino at age 17.
Although Fantasia has had a tough life, she's now found happiness with her husband, Kendall Taylor.
Jamie Lynn Spears
Jamie Lynn Spears, All That star, and sister of pop superstar Britney Spears stirred up controversy when she announced her pregnancy back in 2007.
Jamie Lynn was just 16 at the time, and she was still starring in the Disney Channel show Zooey 101. Jamie Lynn and the father of her child got engaged, but that relationship ultimately didn't work out. Now Jamie and her daughter Maddie are happily living with Jamie Lynn's husband, Jamie Watson.
Natalia Vodianova
Russian supermodel Natalia Vodianova gave birth to her son Lucas when she was 19 years old. Natalia was really excited about becoming a mother, even if it happened at a young age.
She said. "I actually want to have very soon another one." Vodianova got her wish of having a large family, and now she has five children.
Bristol Palin
Bristol Palin gave birth to her son, Tripp, in 2008. She was 17 when she got pregnant and 18 when he was born.
In May 2009, Palin was named a Teen Pregnancy Prevention Ambassador for the Candie's Foundation. The same year, she told Good Morning America,"Regardless of what I did personally, abstinence is the only 100% foolproof way you can prevent pregnancy.
Solange Knowles
Singer (and sister of the one and only Beyoncé) Solange married Daniel Smith in 2004 when she was 17. She gave birth to a son, Daniel Jr., that same year.
Solange and her ex-husband separated in 2007, but Knowles calls her son "the greatest unplanned blessing."
Naomi Judd
Naomi Judd gave birth to her daughter Christina Ciminella, AKA Wynona Judd, in 1974. Naomi was just 18 years old at the time.
Charles Jordan, Wynona's biological father, abandoned Naomi and Wynona. Naomi quickly married Michael Ciminella, and her second daughter, Ashley, was born four years later.
Maya Angelou
Maya Angelou had her son, Clyde when she was just 17. Clyde later changed his name to Guy Johnson. I guess he was following in his mother's footsteps. Maya Angelou's name at birth was Marguerite Annie Johnson.
Guy also had just one child. I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Rod Stewart
Singer Rod Stewart had children with a few different women before having two children with his third wife while he was in his 60s. Although he was quite old when he had those kids, he became a father for the first time when he was just 18.
Stewart didn't have much of a relationship with his oldest daughter, Sarah Streeter until she was much older and her adoptive parents had died.
Taylor Hansen
Taylor Hanson became a teen dad when his wife, Natalie Anny Bryant gave birth to their son in 2002. Taylor was 19 at the time, and Natalie was 18.
They named the baby Jordan Ezra, and in an announcement to the press, Hanson said, "Having Ezra is the best thing we've ever done. Life and art are all about these moments."
Sofia Vergara
Sofia Vergara gave birth to her son, Manolo, in 1992, when she was just 19. She was married at the time but split with her husband a year later.
Vergara was a single mother working as a local model in Colombia after being discovered by a photographer on a beach. One thing led to another, and now Sofia and Manolo are living large.
Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi Goldberg had her daughter, Alex Martin, when she was just 18 years old. Alex also had kids young, so Whoopi became a grandmother at the age of 34. By the time she was 58, she was already a great-grandmother.
At this rate, Whoopi could have great-great-grandchildren by the time she's 80.
Loretta Lynn
Loretta Lynn and her husband, Oliver "Doolittle" Lynn, got married in 1948, when they were 15 and 21, respectively.
By the time Loretta was 19, she had three children. She had her fourth and final child the week before she turned 20. She became a grandmother before she was 35. So far, Loretta has 27 grandchildren.
Ted Nugent
Ted Nugent was 18 years old when he got his 17-year-old girlfriend pregnant. The couple decided to give the baby up for adoption. His son, Ted Mann, never looked for his birth parents when he was a kid, but his father gave him a call when he was in his 40s.
They now have a pretty close relationship.
Aretha Franklin
Aretha was already using her powerful voice to stun audiences when she had her first child just after her fourteenth birthday. Aretha had another child just two years later.
She didn't let single motherhood stop her from achieving her dreams, though. By the time she was 20, she was balancing being a mom and topping the pop charts.
Tom Jones
British singer Tom Jones married his childhood sweetheart when he was just 17. A month after they got married, Jones' wife, Melinda Trenchard, gave birth to their son, Mark Jones.
At that point, Jones hadn't really started his music career. He tried to make ends meet by working in a paper mill.
Roseanne Barr
Roseanne Barr was just 17 years old when she gave birth to a baby girl in 1970. She decided to give that baby up for adoption. Years later, Roseanne got to meet her adult daughter and form a relationship with her.
Roseanne also has three other children with her ex-husband Bill Pentland, and she has another son with her later ex-husband, Ben Thomas.
Patti Smith
Patti Smith gave up her first child for adoption. She was 19 when she gave birth to her daughter. After her daughter was born, Smith suffered from postpartum depression.
She said she knew giving up her child was the best decision, but it was still a very difficult and emotional one.
Shirley Temple
Shirley Temple got married when she was 17 and gave birth to daughter Linda Susan in 1948, when she was 19.
She and her first husband divorced in 1950, and she remarried 11 days later to Charles Alden Black. The couple had two more children, Charles Jr. and Lori. They stayed married until Charles died in 2005.
Suzanne Somers
Suzanne Somers had her son when she was a teenager. She's been pretty honest about the difficulties of being a young parent.
She said, "As a teenage mother with no way to make a real living and no child support from my son’s father, I was always struggling to pay the rent, buy food, buy clothing, just to live a normal life. It was a major struggle but it taught me some great life lessons."
