The Weirdest Things Found Inside The Human Stomach
To say that some people have a weird appetite would be understating the human race. From banana sandwiches to broccoli chocolate milkshakes to parsley and peanut butter, if there's a will (and a recipe), there's a way.
But, after you read this article, you're going to have a new appreciation for the human stomach. The damage control the human body has to do when someone eats a live snake is incredible. Just wait until you see some of the bizarre things that doctors have found inside of the human stomach.
Cement / Enema Mix
Now, I don't want to be overly dramatic, but this is bad. A couple decided that they would spice up their love life and pour enema fluid mixed with concrete mix into their rectum.
They poured it through a funnel, and well, the concrete hardened and almost ruptured some of their organs. The mass had to be surgically removed, but luckily, the couple ended up staying together through the entire procedure.
30 Items To Sneak Into Prison
It's hard to blame the man for trying. He snuck quite a little care package into jail. To be exact, he snuck 17 Oxycodone pills, one cigarette, six matches, one flint, and one empty syringe.
Oh, you think that's it? Nope, they found an empty syringe with an eraser over the tip, chapstick (which is a power move), a condom, and a CVS receipt. I mean, he wasn't going to get away without paying his buddy back.
A Giant Squid
If you're squirmy, you're probably not going to want to read this one. A woman named Margaret Daalman had severe stomach pains when she went into the hospital. After an X-Ray, it showed that she had a giant squid eating her insides.
Yes, this is not a joke. Can you imagine the poor X-Ray technician's reaction when they saw a stomach-eating giant squid on the screen? That's kind of scary.
Light Bulb
Doctors in Pakistan removed a light bulb from a prisoner's stomach after he complained of some pain. Yes, I happen to not be a doctor, but I would assume having a light bulb in your stomach would at least cause a little discomfort.
The prisoner could not explain to anyone how it happened, and was just as shocked as everyone else to find out what was causing his pain. So many questions left to be answered.
Silverware
A lady in the Netherlands was complaining of severe stomach pain. When the doctors examined her, they found that she had eaten up to 78 pieces of cutlery consisting of spoons, forks, and knives.
At the time, she was suffering from borderline personality disorder. This was causing her to impulsively eat the cutlery. She has since been able to make a full recovery and is receiving help with her obsession.
A Fetus
I know what you're thinking, well, isn't that pretty normal if you know you're pregnant? Yes. The difference? She had no idea.
Sanju Bhagat from India had an abnormally large stomach for many years. She didn't know what it was from. One day she suffered from severe stomach pain and was rushed to the hospital. The doctors found what looked like a tumor, but was actually a partially formed fetus.
Hairball
A woman from the United Kingdom was rushed to hospital after she was experiencing an abnormal amount of abdominal pain. It was pain that had lingered for months.
The doctors discovered that she had a 14-pound hairball in her stomach. She explained that she had a habit of eating her hair for the past seven years. She was diagnosed with trichotillomania which is the constant urge to pull your hair out.
Surgical Tweezers
Shortly after having an operation, 57-year-old Daryoush Mazarei was experiencing chronic discomfort in his stomach. However, he was told that nothing was wrong with him.
After they gave him a CT scan, they saw a large object in his abdomen. After opening up his stomach again, they found a set of surgeons retractors that had been accidentally left inside of him during his last surgery. I'm assuming a big payout was in order?
Mini Cell Phone
A prisoner in Ireland was brought into the hospital after he was throwing up for nearly two days straight. He told medical professionals that he had swallowed a mini cellphone six hours prior to throwing up.
The doctors decided that the only way it was going to come out was if he was thrown on the surgery table. They ended up getting it out and he was able to make a full recovery.
Magnets
An eight-year-old swallowed nearly 30 magnets and other chunks of metal thinking they were candy. I think the rule of thumb should be, if they're cold and feel like metal, don't put them into your mouth.
The magnets use their pull to destroy the stomach lining, major organs, and ruin blood flow patterns. She had to undergo some major surgery to remove the magnets which were all in different stages of digestion.
Cobblestone
In 2006, a Chinese woman swallowed more than 20 cobblestones after a fight with her boyfriend. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume she was paving the road for her future relationship?
Anyway, she assumed her digestive system would flush them out, but they ended up lodging in her stomach. She had to get surgery to get the stones out after several days of immense pain. Not good.
Keys
An 18-year-old computer design student swallowed a two-inch key at a party to stop his friends from taking him home after they decided he'd had enough to drink.
Doctors ended up sending him home and told him to let nature take its course. The key emerged nearly 30 hours later. I think we can all get behind someone THIS dedicated to stopping drunk driving. Slow claps for this 18-year-old design student.
Bed Spring
Another day, another prisoner trying to ingest something they shouldn't be ingesting. X-rays from in Raleigh, North Carolina, showed items such as bed springs in the prisoner's stomachs.
The reason the prisoners were swallowing the bed springs and various other items was simply to gain trips to hospitals outside of prison grounds. I mean, I don't really blame them. The hospital is probably more fun than being in jail. I guess you'd have to weigh the positive-negative effects of swallowing bed springs.
Pen
It's safe to say that you can mark pens down under the "probably shouldn't swallow" category. A 76-year-old woman visited a gastrointestinal specialist for stomach-related pains.
She saw drastic weight loss and had a lot of diarrhea. An x-ray showed that a pen was lodged into the woman's stomach. When they removed the pen, they realized that it had been in there for 25 years, yet it was somehow still usable.
Coins
A 62-year-old man who had a history of mental issues went into the emergency room in 2002 suffering from stomach pains. Doctors were very surprised to see that the man's belly contained nearly 400 coins.
Altogether, the money was worth $650. I don't know what kind of dough this guy was making, but apparently enough to literally eat $650. The bundle of coins was so heavy that it forced his stomach down between his hips.
Cell Phone
There's a common trend of prisoners doing desperate things to ensure that they stay connected to the outside world. Many of them are willing to risk their lives in order to bring drugs or phones into their cell.
A prisoner in San Salvador was found with a cell phone inside of his body after trying to smuggle the device into his cell. The problems came when he couldn't get it out.
An Airplane
Either Michel Lotito needs to find some hobbies, or he really isn't a fan of European food and is desperate for an alternative. He consumed a 1.5 ton plane over the course of a few weeks.
First, he ate an entire car tire. Then he crushed some light bulbs, and then the plastic shelling, and on it went. May I suggest a quick trip to a McDonald's? They're consistently good all around the world.
Nail Scissors
You know when you get something stuck in your teeth and you're desperate to find a toothpick? Well, that was Kong Lin, a 27-year-old who couldn't find a toothpick so he resorted to nail scissors.
One of Kong's friends said a funny joke and he laughed which then made him swallow the makeshift toothpick and it resulted in a not-so-quick trip to the hospital. He needs more unfunny friends, I guess.
Engagement Ring
Katilin Whipple swallowed the engagement ring that her boyfriend placed in her frosty. Yes, this is a true story about how love perseveres through even the, uh, worst proposals.
At first, she crushed the frosty, and got to the bottom. She was wondering why her boyfriend was looking so confused. She swallowed it without even noticing. She didn't believe she did it until her boyfriend made her go for an x-ray.
Live Eel
A man from China admitted himself to a hospital after reportedly getting a live eel stuck inside him. The sea creature was 20 inches long from an Asian swamp and entered through his, uh, backside.
It took an overnight surgery to get the eel out of his body. The surgeons said that the eel was desperately trying to find a way out of the man's body. I don't blame him, or her, or it, or whatever.
Drugs
This isn't all that surprising. A Nigerian man was caught at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport with a foreign lump in his stomach. It was visible without any x-ray that there was something wrong with the look of the man's stomach.
Upon further research, they were able to find a package with 54 capsules of meth. It's safe to say that his gag reflex is unlike any other those security officers have seen.
Bullet Shells
An ex-soldier managed to use a shell to get the bullet all the way up to his rectum, because, why not? The World War II vet suffered horrible hemorrhoids that they would get stuck in the seam of his underpants as he walked.
He would push the hemorrhoids back up with the artillery shell from an antiaircraft gun. One time the shell got stuck and he had to go to the ER.
Spoon
This is the story of someone being in a bad situation, and it turned into something a lot worse. A 33-year-old woman attempted to use a spoon to remove a fish bone lodged in her larynx. She accidentally swallowed the spoon and had to be taken to the operating room.
The surgeon was surprised that she was able to swallow the spoon. I guess that's a compliment, but I can't really be too sure.
Grenade
There was a suicide bomber who decided that the right thing to do was to ingest a grenade. That's great, but he didn't know how to detonate it after making that bold decision.
He started hitting his stomach to attempt to pull the pin, but that wasn't able to happen. His actions set off some serious alarm bells to the people who were there. He ended up just killing himself.
Live Frogs
Just the thought of this will probably make you croak. No pun intended, but kind of pun intended. Jiang Musheng went to the hospital with pain in his stomach, but he wasn't sure what it was.
He met up with an older man who told him to eat five live frogs to help his intestinal issues. Well, they made him feel better and he still eats them to this day. Gross.
Beer Bottle
You might like beer, but you probably don't like beer as much as this guy. A Chinese man was sent to the hospital after complaining to his wife about some abdominal pain.
Well, the man had a glass beer bottle lodged into his insides which would be a legitimate reason for some pain. It ended up having to be surgically removed which is embarrassing in itself. He was able to make a full recovery.
Batteries
Nothing is off-limits for kids. If they're hungry, they'll put anything in their mouth because they don't know any better. There are several cases of children eating batteries every year.
There are is unfortunate cases when the child actually dies because the battery acid ends up causing some internal bleeding. Basically, the moral of the story is to keep batteries out of the hands of children who think that they're just hard candies.
Snake
A 49-year-old woman was taken to a local bishop for healing. But, that bishop couldn't do anything about it. He was confused. The woman's stomach just kept growing.
Everyone just assumed she was pregnant, but after her teeth started falling out, doctors took a closer look. What they found was actually a snake in her belly. The doctors think that the bishop put the snake in there out of jealousy.
Nails
A Chinese carpenter was holding a nail between his teeth when he suddenly coughed and swallowed it. He was taken to hospital where doctors x-rayed him and found the nail in his right lung.
They attempted to remove it and were very close, but the carpenter coughed again and sucked it back into his left lung this time. Eventually, they were able to locate the nail and remove it, but it took some incredible surgical moments.
Loaded Gun
When you're headed to jail, the last thing you want police to find is a gun. That will 100% of the time escalate the situation. For 21-year-old Dallas Archer (cool name) of Tennessee, the only way to hide her gun was in her lady parts.
When she was booked in jail, she was charged for introducing contraband into a penal facility and has to serve many more years in prison.
