Typically Google Earth is a great tool to use to scope out a destination in advance or even virtually visit places you'd never get to go otherwise. Typically. Occasionally, though, images slip through that are downright terrifying.
We think you'll agree that the bloodbath on a fishing pier is rather unnerving.
Those Legs, Though
Yeah, if we wanted to visit the El Castillo pyramid in Chichen Itzo, Mexico, we might change our minds after seeing this image. We're really hoping that the camera malfunctioned in this picture and that this lady doesn't have feet that look like cloven hooves, but you never know.
Take A Dip...Or Not
No one has quite figured out what, exactly, is in the water next to this marina, but one thing is for sure -- we're not going anywhere near it. Step aside, Loch Ness Monster, there's a new water monster in town, and it looks far more terrifying than any of the supposed Nessie sightings we've ever seen.
Beware Of The Bird People
You know where we
don't want to visit? Any town where people donning bird masks line the streets. This is the stuff low-budget horror movies are made of, so maybe we'll see something like this pop up on Netflix soon.
Keep reading if you want to see another terrifying bird image.
Mayday, Mayday!
Anyone who is scared of flying will find the photo of this plane crash downright terrifying. This plane crashed in Alameda, California, and as terrifying as it looks, thankfully, no one was hurt. Despite that, the image of a plane broken in half is enough to keep some of us from boarding a flight anytime soon.
Well, That's Unnerving
Judging from the looks of things, it doesn't appear to be Halloween, yet here are four individuals dressed in freaky masks that appear to be up to no good. There's no way that we would stay on that road if we came across this group, so we'd be turning back.
The Birds
Alfred Hitchcock would love this scene, but the rest of us? Not so much. Birds can be pretty creatures, but a flock this size is unnerving at best when you think about the kind of damage they could do.
In an upcoming slide, check out a carjacking that got caught on Google Earth.
The Last Samurai
Be grateful that you're only seeing these two samurais fighting on Google Earth and not in real life. We're pretty sure that if we were walking down a sidewalk and saw these two guys, that we'd be turning around and heading in the other direction.
In The Ghetto
Coming across this image of the Roma ghetto in Slovakia is terrifying in so many ways. The fact that people could live in buildings like this is horrifying enough, but then there's the fact that they have no electricity, heat, or running water. The small child out front only makes things worse.
Caught On Camera
Of all the things you could see on Google Earth, you definitely wouldn't expect to see images of a
crime in progress. One camera caught this carjacking in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2015. Luckily, no one was hurt.
Next up is a rabbit that will give you nightmares.
The Scene Of The Crime
This image freaked out a bunch of people when they looked closer and thought they saw a body and a pool of blood. Scary, right? No worries, though. After some investigation, it was found that the red spot was actually just water dragged across the pier by a dog. Whew.
Gone, Baby, Gone
This image on Google Earth is sure to strike fear in the hearts of parents everywhere. It captured a baby crawling all by himself in front of a Gucci store in Taiwan, heading towards the road. A
baby, people. No, the kids definitely are not all right.
Bring On The Nightmares
Before you get too distressed and think this is the creepy bunny from the nightmares you had as a kid, know that it is a 200-foot stuffed bunny made in Italy. That doesn't make it any less creepy, does it?
In a slide coming up, what appears to be a trash can full of bodies will stop your heart.
That Horse Deserves Better
This horse that can be seen on Google Earth is a combination of horrifying and heartbreaking. This poor horse looking like skin and bones is bad enough, but the image of him picking through literal garbage to find something to eat is really hard hitting.
Hello, Haunted House
This house is New Boston pretty much guarantees that we will never set foot in that town. No, really. It takes the whole haunted house thing to a whole new level. Even people who don't believe in ghosts would have to be dragged into this house.
That Isn't What You Think It Is
Google Earth captured one of the most horrifying images in this slideshow with what appears to be garbage cans full of and surrounded by bodies. Before you call the cops, you should know that these are actually mannequins.
In a slide coming up, see what some people think is the Kraken.
Always Remember
You've likely seen many horrifying images of the September 11 attacks on the Twin Towers, but you probably haven't seen this one before. Google Earth captured this picture after one of the towers was hit, and you can clearly see the smoke billowing up from the fire.
Assault And Battery
We've seen another example of an act of crime caught by Google Earth in this slideshow, and here's another -- these two women were caught mid-fight. As if being caught on camera fighting wasn't bad enough, one woman actually dragged another by her hair into the street. Yeah, we're staying far away from there.
Spot The Sea Monster
After spotting this image Google Earth took in an ocean near Antarctica, many people believed that the Kraken -- a sea monster from Nordic folklore -- had been found. Even though this image looks disturbing, a scientist determined that it actually isn't a sea monster, but an area of rocks. We're not convinced, though.
Sand Circles, Anyone?
If you find crop circles unnerving, then you'll be sure to find these sand circles pretty darn scary. They look like they span at least 100 yards and cut across a road. Maybe next time Google Earth will end the debate and find out just who is responsible for these circles, whether it's aliens or men.
On The Lam
If this picture doesn't make you want to lock your doors and windows, then we don't know what will. The last image in this slideshow shows an escaped convict fleeing down the road in his orange prison jumpsuit. This really makes you wonder what other horrifying images will come up on Google Earth next.
