A house isn't home until the owners personalize it with their unique style. For one Michigan couple, that meant vibrant walls, sparkly black floors, and very colorful furniture. The result is a home that looks like it was trapped in the '90s. Read on for a major dose of nostalgia.
A Waterfront Property
The Michigan house sits right by a lake and is surrounded by tall trees that offer plenty of privacy. With more than 7,000 square feet and six bedrooms, the estate is nearly mansion-sized!
A u-shaped driveway offers plenty of parking, and there's a spacious lawn out front. The off-white walls and the gray roof make this home's exterior blend in with the rest of the neighborhood. However, the inside is far from the average house.
A Modern Front Entrance
The house is located on Cass Lake in Waterford, Michigan. When approaching the home, nothing stands out as different. On the contrary, the modern, plain design out front suggests that the inside is completely ordinary.
A small roof extends from the front door across the driveway, making it feel more like the entrance to a hotel than a house. The plain color of the house and driveway make the landscaping pop, and also makes the inside that much more surprising.
The Powder Blue Foyer
The minute you walk through the front door, it's clear that this isn't your average home. Right away, the '90s influence is apparent in the design. Powder blue walls and a soft-pink staircase make it feel like you've just gone through a time portal.
The colors are echoed in the area rug, which has a design that could only have been concocted in the '80s or '90s. Huge windows and recessed lighting ensure you don't miss a corner of this nostalgic design.
That Fuchsia Carpet Though
Beyond the foyer is a spacious living room that embodies the '90s in every way. The colors, the patterns, even the style of furniture all scream '90s. First of all, the carpet is fuchsia!
Pairing pink and blue together went out of style a while ago, but not in this house. There are also purple accents throughout to tie it all together. Between the half-moon couches and the wall of china cabinets, this design is definitely from another year.
A Black And Blue Tray Ceiling
This direction reveals the living room's jaw-dropping two-story-high windows. They lead right up to a tray ceiling that is painted powder blue to match the walls. The trim, though, is black, which is about as '90s as you can make a ceiling.
This room looks like something out of the 1998 film Night at the Roxbury, especially with those violet fabric dining chairs and the leather barstools. Even the piano has a '90s vibe to it!
The Retro Dining Room
Sci-fi movies were all the rage in the '90s, and for some reason, this dining room feels like it came off the set of The Fifth Element. Something about the slanted shape of those chair backs makes it seem like a room for aliens.

This angle shows how much natural light is flooding in from the far window, but it still feels dark on account of the black floors and countertops. The white linoleum cabinets are so shiny they practically reflect the rest of the room.
Around the teardrop-shaped island are leather and metal barstools that also have a retro feel to them. As niche as the style may be, the kitchen has some impressive features like the double-wide fridge, the double oven, and the endless amount of storage space.

Directly off the kitchen is an eating area with a round table and leather chairs that definitely are not from this era. In case those weren't dated enough, there are also two hot pink rolling chairs that match the bright walls.
Over the table is a chandelier that looks as though it was made from white flashlights. Probably the most modern aspect of this room is the television mounted to the wall.
An Entertainment Center Built For The '90s
Typically, built-ins are a huge perk since they offer extra storage and save space. In this case, though, the built-in entertainment center does more harm to sellability than good.
The glossy black material and frosted windows make the structure look very '90s. It more or less looks like a giant entertainment center, which is no longer a necessity. It appears that the built-in was made to fit all the dated devices that have since been replaced by smart TVs.
A Media Room
One perk of the home that makes it feel closer to a mansion is the media room. All of the giant flatscreen televisions still can't beat the feel of a projector and a home theater. That being said, even this room feels '90s.
The leather recliners, though incredibly comfortable-looking, don't do much for this room in terms of style. The black and red color scheme is so three decades ago. Then there are the shelves of DVDs and stereo systems that no one really needs anymore.
The Finished Basement
Beneath the main floor is a finished basement that would be a huge perk for a prospective buyer who is nostalgic for the era. The spacious room would be the perfect spot for a '90s party.

Off the basement is one of the home's biggest perks: an indoor swimming pool! The amenity sounds luxurious, but it looks almost like a McDonald's playground from the '90s.
That's because of the pastel color scheme, which includes a ceiling the same shade of purple as Barney the dinosaur. The walls are a shiny white tile speckled with purple and blue tiles. The floor also features colorful tiles that don't seem to follow any particular pattern.
A Reflective Tile Ceiling
Where the ceiling isn't purple, it's covered in reflective tiles. While it may be advantageous to be able to watch your swimming form, the look is definitely out of style today.
The far wall to the left is filled with translucent tiles that are modern compared to the rest of the room. Stacked next to the wall are pool toys that look like they, too, are from the '90s. Just look at all those pool noodles!
The Vibrant Hallway
Hallways are sometimes the plainest part of the home, but not this one. The walls along the stairs are purple, the rest of the walls are blue, and the carpet is red.
Though the hallway isn't very wide, the homeowners managed to squeeze in two lounge chairs, one that's black and one that's white. The chairs match the abstract painting to the left. Another retro feature of this house is the chrome handrailing throughout.
The Pink And Purple Master Bedroom
The master bedroom features a spacious layout and floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the lake out back. While a prospective buyer might appreciate these features, they also may be eager to rip out that pink carpet and repaint the purple walls.

The Speckled Master Bathroom
Off the master bedroom is a spacious bathroom that has beautiful treetop windows. The walls have a speckled design that looks similar to granite countertops and continues onto the floor.
The vanity has white cabinets and a black countertop with a protruding, round sink. The large mirror isn't framed and has an arch in the middle. To the left are translucent tiles that likely surround a shower stall. Beyond is what looks like a storage closet full of pink.
The Quintessential '90s Spare Room
It really doesn't get more '90s than this spare room. While the walls and cabinets are plain white, the carpet offers plenty of color with its bright pink tone. Straight ahead is a corner cabinet with just enough space for a box-shaped television.
To the left is a painting of a living room that also looks like it's from the '90s. The majority of the room is taken up by a large desk covered in '90s memorabilia, including an early home computer and a desktop calculator.
A Chrome Bathroom
This bathroom has some elegant features, but put together they make a purely '90s design. The vanity has a dark green countertop and staggered chrome drawers underneath.
The gold sink is shaped like a hexagon and above are translucent tiles. Over the tiles is a round mirror that is the only thing about this room that isn't noticeably dated. The floor has sparkly black tiles and the walls are the most subtle shade of pink in this home.
'90s Guest Room Decor
This guest room is simple compared to the rest of the house, but the few pieces of decor still scream '90s. The carpet is hot pink, which ties in with the multicolored bedding. Above the bed is a piece of art that on its own could be elegant, but in this room looks more like clipart.
To the left is a huge dresser that is solid black and so glossy that it practically reflects the rest of the room.
A Pink And White Guest Bathroom
The guest bathroom isn't '90s per se, but it's definitely dated. The homeowner must really love pink because it's one of the main colors in many of the rooms, including this one.
The walls have thick pink stripes on them that go with the hot pink towels. In terms of renovations, though, this room would probably need the least amount of updating. The fixtures are rather timeless and neutral, so a simple paint job would do the trick.
A Bubblegum Pink Laundry Room
The linoleum cabinets and the bubblegum pink walls of this laundry room are definitely from yesteryear. It looks like the homeowners at least updated their washer at some point, but the dryer could be decades old.
The black floors and the light fixture overhead seem a little dated, too. Still, the room definitely has potential, especially considering all that counter space for folding right under that big, beautiful window. Not all homes have such a spacious laundry room.
