Things That Made Us Go, ‘Huh, You Don’t See That Every Day’
If you stop and appreciate the world around you, everyday life can actually be more interesting than we usually realize. Think about the way rainbows are made or the way genetics work or how trees can grow right through metal. Nature is pretty wild sometimes. If you ever feel like the world is getting you down, just think about how magical it is that any of us are here at all.
Keep reading to see moments in which everyday life was truly astounding in a whole bunch of little ways.
A Hereditary Eyebrow
This girl has the same gap in her eyebrow as her great-great-great-great-grandfather. This quirky genetic trait was passed down from generation to generation. Her dad has the eyebrow gap too.
Unintentional Art
This isn't a piece of art hanging in a gallery, but a shovel that has years of paint and rust on it. It does kind of look like a magical winter scene.
Clever Graffiti
This street artist painted some green leaves on the wall behind this bare tree. Now it looks like the tree is casting a full and impossible shadow. It's kind of epic.
The Perfect Banana
Most of us spend our whole lives on a quest for the most perfectly yellow banana. This person found a whole bunch of them. Careful, those are going to turn brown fast.
A Tracking Device In Her Dinner
This woman found a tracking device in the salmon she was butchering for her dinner. It's a good thing she didn't accidentally cook and eat it. You don't want the authorities tracking your intestines.
This Cleaner Really Works
Somebody spilled a bottle of cleaner that was being sold at this grocery store, and in the process of cleaning up the spill, the floor got super clean. That's as good an advertisement as any for this product.
The Dust On This Army Man
Somebody left this toy army man sitting out on a wall, and over the years, it's collected a whole lot of dust and dirt. Now it's basically unrecognizable. It kind of looks like a yeti.
A 3D Brain
This woman's husband had to have a brain scan. After he was given the all-clear by the doctors, she took the brain scan images and had them 3D printed into little blue models.
An Interesting Cross-Section
This is what it looks like when you cut a nut and bolt in half while they're still attached together. This nut and bolt combo got cut accidentally when a construction worker was trying to cut a piece of wood.
A Matching Rainbow
The crystal chandelier in this person's dining room sent a rainbow of light over to the stove area. Each color of the rainbow lined up perfectly with the knobs on this stove.
Dulce De Leche
This is what happens when you cook milk for a very, very long time. First, it becomes condensed milk, and then the sugars and fats in the milk brown to become this delicious caramel.
A Pickpocket's Dream
This person always keeps their phone in their left pocket, and now there's a permanent indent in their jeans. The only problem is that pickpockets know exactly where to look.
A Lot Of Licks
This pole is located around a field. There are cows that live in that field. It's been worn down over time because all of the cows kept licking it in the same spot.
An Everlasting Image
This person kept their driver's license in their wallet for such a long time that the ghostly image of their face is now forever burned into the wallet's clear plastic window.
Ramen Cake
No, this isn't a delicious bowl of ramen soup. It's actually a cake that was made to look like ramen. We're not sure how this baker managed to make it look so realistic.
Nature Always Wins
This old car was parked in this forest for so long that this tree started growing right through it. When it comes to wars of nature versus technology, nature always wins.
A Screenprinted Mosquito
A bug got caught on this shirt as it was going through a screen printer, so now there's the outline of a mosquito printed on this shirt forever. It's actually kind of cool looking.
Watch Them Work
This restaurant has a mirror located above the chefs' working space so you can watch them work their magic as you enjoy your meal. Maybe you'll learn how to cook a thing or two.
How To Pick A Lock
This clear lock is meant to show people how you can go about picking a lock to open it without having the key. As you stick the pick in the lock, you can watch to make sure it's hitting all the right points.
Step 5
This instruction manual comes with an extra step that instructs builders to take a break and enjoy a pizza after all of their hard work. This is especially funny because this ottoman isn't hard to build at all.
Blending In
Is it absolutely necessary that your electrical socket blends in with your backsplash? No, of course not. Is it kind of cool, though? Absolutely. Somebody very talented must have painted all those little rocks.
Red Bark
There is some red bark lurking under the brown outer layer of bark on this tree, but now it kind of looks like lava or Darth Maul from the Star Wars movies.
An Air Guitar On Display
This museum in Europe has an air guitar on display. It's behind glass because air guitars are very valuable. You wouldn't want anybody to steal it. This is absolutely brilliant.
Ice Ice Garbage
This garbage pail filled up with rain during the fall, and then when winter hit, all of that rain froze solid. Now, these people have a giant, garbage pail shaped ice cube.
Pretty Tire Marks
You've never seen tire tracks that were quite this pretty before. Oil from the truck that made these tracks settled into the grooves and reflected this rainbow pattern. It's not environmentally friendly, but it is pretty.
A Golden Pizza Cutter
This Voyager-themed golden pizza cutter is perfect for nerdy dads who like to tell people that they have a golden record when really they just have a pizza cutter that's shaped like a golden record.
A Skeleton Bike
We're not sure who made this skeleton bike or why they did, but you have to admit that it looks pretty cool. You'd be the talk of the town riding around on this thing.
A Glow-In-The-Dark Floor
By day, this just looks like a regular kitchen floor, but at night, the glow in the dark paint comes out to play. This floor was made using a clear epoxy.
Dried Glue
Crazy glue leaked out of a tube and dried on a piece of wood in this crazy pattern. All of those little stringy bits kind of look like the fur of some crushed Loony Tunes character.
An Old Pinky Ring
You can see that this gold signet ring was always worn on its owner's left pinky. The inside of it is all worn down from rubbing against the ring finger beside it.
That's A Horse Of A Different Color
You've probably seen race horses who wear blinders or wear those masks over their faces, but have you ever seen a horse wearing bright blue neoprene tights? Well, now you have.
They're Definitely Not Open To Visitors
If you come across a fence you know that it probably means you're not supposed to go to where is blocked off, but chain link fence covered in frost makes it look a lot more ominous.
Some Things Never Fade
If you keep a dollar bill in your wallet for long enough it's going to start to fade, naturally, but you'll notice that not all of it will. The serial number and other seals are designed to last for longer.
Something's Missing
Opening up a package of Twix that looks like this would have someone thinking they were supposed to be barbecuing those for the children for dinner. Where's the chocolate part of it?
These Antics Are Getting Tiresome
It's not clear how someone would manage to get a tire to sit around the base of a tree trunk, but more importantly, it's not clear why someone would do that.
Always Blame The Chickens First
While you were running around like a chicken with your head cut off, the chickens in the coop where you left your phone were busy leaving you a few souvenir selfies.
You've Got To Get To The Slopes Somehow
What, you think you're the only person who's allowed to enjoy some fresh powder on the mountain? Just because they don't drive cars doesn't mean they don't enjoy winter sports!
It Can Only Stand Its Ground For So Long
The whole point of the metal pattern on the floor is to keep people from slipping or wearing out the floor, but even that can't hold up against the millions of people who have visited the Eiffel Tower.
Don't Go Towards The Light!
How long must this plant have been sitting next to the light to get to the point where it actually grew up into the lamp shade? Clearly this is a plant that should've been near a window where it could get some sunlight.
We Will Not Be Eating That
So you mean to tell me that if you hard boil a penguin's egg, it comes out clear? That's going to be a hard no. We'll stick to regular hard boiled eggs.
