Seemingly Simple Pics That Tell A Bigger Story
Are you ready to play detective? Sometimes, you can tell a lot about what happened in the past from the little clues history leaves behind. Often, the only way we are actually able to know that an event occurred in the past is because some trace of that event remains in the present.
Keep reading to see the evidence from a bike accident that happened long ago, a lucky toe that's been rubbed down to a nub, and proof that a lizard just fell from the sky.
Keep On Growing
This watermelon obviously started growing next to this grate, and when the grate started restricting its growth, it just kept on growing. Now it's kind of part of the grate.
Old Vs. New
This is a picture of an old work boot next to a new work boot of the same make and model. The tread on the old work boot is super worn down compared to the new one.
Rain Drops Keep Falling
Reddit user VersaceRabbit posted this photo online along with the caption, "The stone on this Italian castle being completely worn down by 700 years of rainfall dripping off the roof onto the exact same spot."
That Looks Like It Hurt
This person fell off of their bike several years ago. They used their hand to break their fall and a piece of gravel got embedded in their skin. Now, the gravel is finally working it's way out.
A Very Old Paw Print
This paw print is over 2000 years old. It's this ancient animal's way of saying, "I was here." We can learn so much about the animals of the past from the tracks they leave behind.
The Biggest Puff
This huge smoke ring was created after Mount Etna erupted. This is basically what a volcano burp looks like, in case you were wondering. We think it's pretty darned cool.
Leaving Imprints
This cat was obviously sitting on his owner's harm for a long time, because he left these little paw prints behind. That cat must be pretty heavy to leave such deep imprints.
A Well-Loved Toy
This person took a photo of their dog's favorite toy next to a newer version of the same toy that they found at a thrift store. The newer version looks a lot cleaner.
Chemistry In The Sand
We're not sure why anybody would want to be doing chemistry on their beach vacation, but either somebody forgot their pen and paper at home, or the sand is just the perfect place to figure out molecules.
Lego Vs. Time
These two keychains were exactly the same when they started out, but the one on the right has been loved and used for a long time. You can see how much the edges of the brick have rounded off over time.
Turning Gray
This dog has a genetic condition that causes it to change color as it gets older. These two photos were taken three years apart. We think this pup looks cute in any color.
Why Star Wars?
This elephant was the result of an elephant painting contest held by the town of Erwin, Tennessee. We're not sure thy this artist decided to go with a Star Wars theme.
Splat Goes The Lizard
This person had no idea that there was a lizard hanging out on her ceiling until she heard something go "splat" on her charging pad. The lizard scurried away, but you can still see the trace he left behind.
Round The Corner
The corner of this banister post has been rounded and worn down from years of people sliding their hands along it as they climbed up and down this set of stairs.
Struck By Lightning
This rock has been struck by lighting. You can see all of the cool veining patterns that the lightning left behind. It looks like some kind of strange alien egg now.
Right Through The Key
This person actually ripped a hole through the W key on her gaming keyboard because she used it so much while having long nails. The letters on the other keys are completely worn off too.
A Sun-Bleached Binder
This person left their green binder on their desk for a while, and over time, the sunlight coming in from the window bleached the bottom half of it. Now it looks like it has a cool gradient design.
Shifted Bricks
These bricks didn't always have gaps between them. The bricks along this path shifted after an earthquake happened years earlier. The bricks moved and never settled back into their original spots.
A Mammoth Skull
Sixty fully intact mammoth skeletons were found during the construction of Mexico City's airport. Archaeologists think that all of these mammoths died after they were trapped and killed by ancient humans.
A Worn-Down Spoon
This old spoon has been worn down after years of stirring coffee and tea. The metal on one side of the spoon kept bumping against the bottom of mugs. Now it looks slanted.
Always The Same Pocket
This person obviously leaves their smartphone in their right pocket every day. That phone has made quite an impression, literally. What we're really wondering is why this guy has three pairs of the same jeans.
Dyed By The Sun
People are really getting into doing tie-dye with bleach these days, but really, the sun did it first and everybody else is just copying. This T-shirt was left crumpled up in a car that was parked under the hot sun.
A Lucky Toe
People like to rub this statue's right toe for good luck as they walk past it. The toe has really been worn down from all of that touching. It looks a lot smoother than the toes on the left foot.
What Used To Be
The pothole on this road reveals that there used to be red bricks underneath the asphalt. We can't see much of the brick, but from this photo, it seems to be in better shape than the top layer of the road.
The Skeleton Tells The Story
This snake died from bone cancer. You can see the exact point in his skeleton where the cancer affected his bones. It looks like a whole mess of bones right in the middle of this snake's body.
A Very Old Flag
This is a flag that was found years after the Battle of Trafalgar. This flag looks like it's really taken a beating. Old naval battles must have been pretty brutal.
Wedged In A Tree
Somebody hit a golf ball into this tree, it got wedged into the truck, and then the tree started growing around it. When the tree was cut down many years later, the golf ball was also sliced in half.
Math On The Street
If anybody is a math wiz and knows what's going on here, please enlighten us. We're not sure why somebody would need to do math in the middle of the street.
Make It Funny
This person got into some sort of car accident, but instead of fixing their truck, they just put some very appropriate decals on it. Now it looks like Coyote ran straight into it.
Lightning Strikes Again
These people both got struck by lightning. Apparently, when lightning strikes, it leaves behind a very distinct scarring patten, called a Lichtenberg figure. This looks like it hurt pretty badly. At least they have some cool scars to show for it.
