I think the C is silent. Here’s my logic: “S” can only make one sound (unless it’s next to an “H,” but that’s a different story). A “C” can make two sounds (again, unless there’s an “H” present).

So it’s probably the “C” that’s silent because it’s not making a hard sound like in “country.” Anyway, that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.
