Hilariously Creative Landscaping And Gardening Choices
Landscaping may be one of the more underrated of the arts. However, after seeing some of the following gardens and landscapes, you'll quickly realize that not everyone has an eye for exterior design. These landscaping fails are so appalling that you won't be able to help but wonder what these people were thinking. If you don't believe us, just imagine succulents coming out of toilets, a giant hedge in the shape of a monster, or household appliances being used as planters. You may struggle to believe your eyes once you see what some "creative types" have done to the space around their homes.
I Can See You
While the person who designed this giant face emerging from the Earth may have thought it was a clever idea, they clearly underestimated how creepy it is. Let's forget for a moment that this is a huge mound of dirt crafted to look like a head and focus just on the eyes.
Those eyes appear to be crafted from a hard substance like marble. While the brilliant blue of the iris is a nice color, you can't help but feel like these eyes are watching you. Like the Mona Lisa, this gardening fail will follow you no matter where you go.
Crazed Lemurs
Maybe it's just the fact that they're in a straight line, but don't these lemurs look a little hypnotizing? We know they aren't actual lemurs. They're crafted from bushes that look like they might not even be real plants.
Still, the golden eyes and tiny pupils give an aura of mind control that is uncomfortable to look at. Maybe a devoted lemur-lover can see the value of these odd additions to a garden, but that appeal is beyond our realm of understanding.
Don't Use The Outhouse
This is a toilet. We just wanted to confirm that for you right off the bat. Now that that's settled, let's go ahead and study what is emerging forth from said toilet. Various succulents, in seemingly good condition, are bursting from the bowl and the tank.
The only way to rationalize this is to consider that perhaps the owner had to replace their toilet and is strictly against wasting materials. The old toilet, hopefully immaculately cleaned, was then brought outside and filled with these succulents because... well, there still isn't a reason now is there?
Is This Supposed To Be Welcoming?
Remember playing in the sand and the dirt as a kid? Maybe you made a smiley face out of leaves and seeds a time or two, or drew images with your finger. This is kind of like that, only stranger and more permanent.
If it was just the rose eyes we might think that the owner of the property has a child that was just playing around. But then you look over and see the deliberately carved succulent garden in the shape of a mouth and you realize this was done on purpose.
Where Computers Go To Die
Here we have rows of very old computers lying in the dirt. If it ended there, it could make some sense. Maybe the owner is a crazed computer engineer who can't part with their beloved art pieces or something.
But then you throw in the plants that are bursting through the tops of the computers and you realize that this is an attempt to repurpose several computers into planters. This is a bizarre way to decorate the yard.
When Your Jeans No Longer Fit
We have to admit that it's a pretty innovative idea to staple jeans to a wooden post and fill them out with soil, then place plants into them. The system might even be helpful for the plants.
The fabric is flexible, allowing the roots to grow in whatever way they need to. The holes at the bottom of the jeans allow excess water to trickle out. Finally, the top of the jeans are the widest part, allowing the plant to blossom and stretch its leaves.
For Rabbit Lovers
This gardening choice is either a fail or a masterpiece, depending on how you feel about rabbits. It's safe to say that the owner of this yard probably adores rabbits, maybe even to an obsessive level.
What's interesting is the amount of detail that was put into the rabbit's face. If you look closely, you can see that indentations were made at the eyes and mouth. You can even almost make out a little nose. We have to admit, as much as the giant bunny bush may be excessive, it is cute.
A Garden Of Toilets
If you thought that the previous toilet was ridiculous, check out this entire garden full of toilets. Each one appears to be strapped to a tree for some odd reason. The tanks and bowls are then filled with a boquet of flowers.
What would possess someone to do this is a complete mystery to us. This yard takes the phrase "beauty lies in the eye of the beholder" to a whole new level. As distrubing as the sight is, just imagine what those neighbors must feel about it.
Mailbox-Eating Shark
Die-hard Jaws fans may see nothing wrong with this shark-inspired mailbox, but we certainly do. The shark is emerging from the lawn as though it were an ocean, and appears to be aiming to munch on the near mailbox.
What's stranger is that the mailbox is connected to the shark via a false leg. And what's going on with the plants sprouting out of its mouth? Was that an attempt to spruce up the curb appeal?
Garden On The Go
Why leave your garden at home when you can take it with you? We have to admit that this is a pretty creative idea. However, for someone who takes care to keep their car free of dirt, this glove-compartment garden might be the worst nightmare.
The tiny succulents are at least suited to the size of the miniature space. However, the needles would still be a hazard in the event of a car accident. Can you imagine what could happen if the airbag went off?
Straight Through The Roof
The most impressive part of this palm tree isn't the fact that it grew through the roof, but that the roof is so perfectly intact. It implies that the roof was built around the tree. There are two possibilities regarding how this happened.
The first is that the palm tree already existed and the house was built directly up against the tree and the roof was built around it. The second is that the house was built first and a palm tree was later planted next to it, then grew up and through the roof, forcing the homeowners to do some repair work.
Fake Lawn Tree
Unimpressed with the small canopy of your front yard tree? Just throw some patches of fake lawn grass over the top and you'll have a lush, green forest in no time. Nevermind the fact that the green is noticeably unnatural and painfully unappealing.
The worst part of this makeshift canopy isn't that the strips are cut into long, unattractive rectangles, but that they don't even match. You've got mostly smooth layers of fake grass topped with a square of thick grass like the cherry on top of a gardening disaster.
Spray-Painted Lawn
If you look around the area where this man is standing, you can clearly see that the lawn is dead. The grass has turned completely yellow. We aren't professional gardeners, but from the looks of it, the lawn seems to be beyond the point of no return.
That's why this clever landscaper is merely spray painting green onto the lawn. Think of how bizarre it would be to see a lush lawn only to touch it and feel the crunchy strands of dead grass.
The Pool Didn't Work Out
Many people dream of having a pool in their backyard, until they realize how much upkeep it is. Pools constantly need to be cleaned, especially if they are surrounded by trees overhead. That may not have been the issue that these pool-owners faced, but something clearly convinced them to give up on it.
Rather than filling the pool up with cement, they went green and filled it up with soil and grew a grass field over the top. It would have been a decent fix, too, if they had taken the time to remove the metal handlebars leftover from pool days.
The Power Of Nature
It can be easy to forget the power of nature, but this photo is certainly a strong reminder. The tree appears to be eating up the iron bench that's likely been there for decades. If you look closely, you can even see that the feet of the bench are off the ground.
You may have seen roots grow up and through concrete before, but it's rare to see a tree trunk overcome a nearby man-made item. The person who planned the positioning of the bench clearly underestimated a tree's ability to take over everything.
Off With Their Heads
Landscapers often will trim the canopy of trees in order to limit the amount of debris that inevitably will fall as the seasons change. It is also normal to see the stump where a tree once was when a landscaper is in the process of creating a clearing.
However, this is an entirely unique beast of a job that just doesn't make any sense. The trees were cut at the top of their trunks so that they don't offer any appeal nor shade. Yet, enough of the tree was left so that they would still be nearly impossible to move.
A New Kind Of Water Fountain
We are completely at a loss with the toilet craze, but apparently its a thing. If you didn't believe it before, check out this fountain made out of toilets. They seem to be fixed somewhat securely onto a frame to arrange them in the shape of a pyramid.
Fortunately, there isn't any water spouting from bowl to bowl, but that doesn't mean that there never was. At least then the odd structure would serve some kind of purpose beyond being a toilet statue.
Say Hello To A Plant Monster
The incredible shapes and designs that some landscapers have created out of plants are awesome; however, this is not one of those. While we can appreciate the commitment and innovation it would take to make this thing, we just don't understand why you would.
The giant shrub appears to be held up by metal bars that support its weight. Based on what you can see in the background, the plant structure looks to be the size of a house and is in the shape of a monster. The terrifying piece of art belongs in the yard of a haunted house.
Please Keep Off The Grass
Considering that the majority of this yard is covered in mud, it's amazing that a small patch of grass was able to grow here at all. We can understand why the gardener would feel protective over their one small patch of grass.
Aside from being obviously ironic, the sign is also pointless considering that someone would have to walk through mud to get to the little patch of grass in the first place. What's worse is that the small bit of grass is littered with trash. What kind of person litters in the one spot of hope in an otherwise barren yard?
It's Like They Turned Their Home Inside Out
We've already seen the computer planter gimmick, so that part is not as shocking. But then you have a television, a microwave, a stove, and a bathtub all bursting with plants. Did the appliances all go bust at the same time?
Even if that were the case, it doesn't make any sense to throw them all out in the yard and fill them with plants. What's worse is that we don't know for sure that the rest of the yard isn't full of every other appliance that was once in the home.
