Unfortunately, all good things eventually have to come to an end. Our favorite TV shows are no different. We want to stay in the fictional world of our favorite characters, living through their heartaches, drama, laughter, and friendships. Then they get canceled, and we feel as though we've lost a part of ourselves.
Well, Hollywood has finally heard the fans and is in the process of making reboots, revivals, and even prequels/sequels of some of our favorite TV shows. Get ready to feel a massive rush of nostalgia with this list of TV reboots.
The Facts Of Life
The Facts of Life, an American sitcom that was a spin-off of the show Diff'rent Strokes, is in the early stages of development for a tenth season reboot. The ninth season left us with "The First Time." A Plot that was a little taboo for the 80s, dealing with the topic of teenage girls losing their innocence.
The reboot is going to be a joint venture between Leonardo DiCaprio's and Jessica Biel's respective production companies. The show is still set to revolve around the issues facing teenage girls, but at the moment, Sony TV is rumored to be shopping around for a writer.
Bewitched
Time to re-learn how to twitch your nose, Bewitched is on its way back to prime time television. I'm not talking about the 60s version with Elizabeth Montgomery that we all know and love, but a 21st-century reboot of the classic story under the genius direction of Black-ish creator Kenya Barris.
Right now, it sounds like the plot is going remain the same, but with a bit of a twist. The story will focus on Samantha, a single black mother who also happens to be a witch, and newly married to a white man, Darrin. ABC is eyeing a 2020 premiere date.
The Sopranos
We went through an emotional roller coaster with the one and only Tony Soprano, not to mention learning a lot of important lessons, such as, "when you're married, you'll understand the importance of fresh produce." So it's hard not to be excited about The Many Saints of Newark announcement. This film is meant to be a prequel of The Sopranos, bringing us into the early life of Tony during the 1967 Newark riots.
David Chase, the original writer of the hit TV series, is taking care of the script, while the late James Gandolfini's son, Michael, is taking on the lead role of Tony.
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
The original show creator, Joss Whedon, is bringing everyone's favorite demon hunter back to television. The original Buffy Summers, Sarah Michelle Geller, has confirmed that she will not be coming back to reprise the iconic role but is excited to see what the new black female lead is going to bring to the character.
Needless to say, the show is in good hands, and we are all excited to see what kinds of stories the new Buffy is going to tell us.
Veronica Mars
Marshmallows, assemble! The cult classic Veronica Mars is set to reboot in 2019. The fan-favorite characters are ready to come back and solve new mystery's in Neptune, including Kristen Bell's private investigator, her on-off love interest Logan, her weirdly lovable father Keith, goofball Dick Casablancas, and more. This is going to be a must-see!
Veronica Mars had such a following during its 2004-2007 airtime, that a crowdfunded movie was made in 2014. This reboot is going to take place five-years post-movie. Meaning, it is going to be more of an adult adventure. Time to see what this PI is made of!
Miami Vice
We have had our hopes dashed in the past with the promise of a Miami Vice reboot. This time, it looks like there is a real chance the iconic 80s cop duo is going to relive their glory days on TV. Vin Diesel is set to produce the reboot of the show, and we trust that he is going to see it through until the end. We can only take so much heartache, Vin!
The show was known for its flashy fashion and witty back-and-forth with the two main leads, Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas. Get ready everyone because Crockett and Tubbs are coming back!
Frasier
Everyone's favorite pretentious talk-show radio host, Dr. Frasier Crane, is in the very early stages of making his way back to prime time television. Kelsey Grammer, the star of the famous sitcom, is saying that the audience will not be facing the same stories we have all come to know and love. Instead, Grammer is bringing Frasier into the present day, seeing where he and his family have found themselves after all these years. Grammer is excited to share these new stories on the small screen.
Presently, a script is in the works and is being pitched to various networks. Fingers crossed something sticks!
Punky Brewster
After airing its last episode a little over 30 years ago, the quirky foster child Punky Brewster will be back on TV! Still in the early stages of development at NBC, Soleil Moon Frye has found herself reprising the role of Penelope, "Punky," who became a pop culture icon in the 80s. Only now she is a single mother with three young kids. Talk about a change in the plot!
The series reboot is being written and produced by Steve and Jim Armogida of School of Rock and Grounded For Life - Meaning the show is bound to give you some great laughs.
Baby-Sitters Club
Calling all 90s ladies, the club you always wanted to be part of is coming to Netflix! The popular book The Baby-Sitters Club is being adapted into a series, again. HBO originally brought the babysitting best friends from Stoneybrook to the small screen in 1990. Now it's Netflix's turn.
Author Ann M. Martin is involved in updating the storyline and giving the girls more modern-day issues to work through. The HBO series was not well received, and neither was the 1997 movie. Fingers crossed this Netflix original series will do better!
Nancy Drew
Again, calling all 90s ladies, another book favorite is about to grace the small screen -- Nancy Drew. There have been five different films, two television adaptations, and four unsuccessful pilots, all of which have been met with lukewarm reviews. Now the CW has Nancy in their grasp, and they are taking a page out of The Vampire Diaries and Riverdale and going dark with the story.
In her first major acting role, Kennedy McMann is set to play the fearless detective, Nancy Drew, while Scott Wolf will play Nancy's father. Be sure to clear your schedule to find out when it premieres!
Mad About You
After a 20-year hiatus, Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt are returning as the Buchmans! Mad About You is a sitcom that ran from 1992-1999, centering around a newlywed New York couple, Paul and Jamie. By the time the last episode aired, the Butchman's were embarking on a whole new adventure in The Big Apple, parenthood.
The reboot is going to focus on new issues that the couple is facing now that they are parents to a young adult. Meaning, they're trying to cope with the fact that their little girl is going off to college.
Party Of Five
Who's ready for some tear-inducing drama? The groundbreaking original series, Party of Five, is coming back! Keep in mind that this is a reboot, not a revival, so the plot of the show is going to remain the same, but the characters are not. Instead of the story revolving around the orphaned Salinger siblings who lost their parents in a tragic car accident, the new show is going to focus more on present-day issues.
The show is going to follow the Acosta siblings whose parents are suddenly deported back to Mexico. This series is bound to be a heart-wrenching drama.
NYPD Blue
Die-hard fans of the original series, rest assured, Kim Delaney and Bill Brochtrup will both be reviving their iconic characters of Detective Diane Russell and John Irvine. The revival is going to pay homage to the original show, revolving the story around Thro, son of Detective Andy Sipowicz, as he works towards earning his detective shield.
With this revival, it is of the utmost importance that it is done correctly. It is for that exact reason that ABC has decided to workshop the new series, although the overall premise seems pretty set. Keep your eyes open for an airing date!
Designing Women
Linda Bloodworth Thomason is bringing us back to Atlanta in Designing Women. The original show ran from 1986-1993, revolving around four women and one man who all work in a fictional interior design firm, Sugarbaker and Associates.
The new series is set to air on ABC but isn't a reboot or revival. It's more of a sequel that is going to focus on a new generation of designers. Get ready for a fresh new take on the ladies of Atlanta. Their sharp Southern wit, political commentary, and cultural and social dialogue are going to be in full swing in this sequel.
Beverly Hills 90210
Since August 7th, your favorite Peach Pit partiers have been back on TV! The new Beverly Hills 90210 is not a reboot or revival in the traditional sense, but more of a loosely based "true story" of the actors lives since the show stopped airing in 2000. It's all very meta and is sure to be overly dramatic, as the original soap opera was.
The original cast of Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Brian Austin Green, Ian Ziering, Shannen Doherty, and Gabrielle Carteris are all reviving their iconic characters.
The Munsters
The Munsters are back and spookier than ever! The show is rebooting for the first time since the 60s, bringing with it all of your monster favorites: Herman, the Frankenstein dad, Lily, the vampire mom, the elderly vampire grandfather, Marilyn, the normal niece, and Eddie, the vampire-werewolf hybrid.
The new rendition is going to take the family out of their Mockingbird Lane, California home, and drop them into a brownstone in the middle of Brooklyn, New York. Talk about a change of scenery! A comedic duo is going to be tackling this project. Jill Kargman is writing the script while Seth Meyers is producing.
Alice
Mel's Diner is back and opened for business! Diablo Cody and Liz Astrof have both been at work writing the script for the FOX revamp of the 70s show, following a similar plotline of the original story.
Alice will be fleeing the east coast with her teenage son, running from a cheating husband. They find themselves at a roadside diner in Arizona, quickly making it a home and the workers a pseudo-family. If the writers' are paying homage to the original, the comedy will surely ensue, along with a bunch of teachable moments.
Northern Exposure
New York native Dr. Joel Fleischman is heading back to Cicely, Alaska, for this Northern Exposure reboot. In development at CBS, co-creators Joshua Brand and John Flasesy are set to make this show a continuation of the hit 90s comedy-drama. At the end of the series, we see Rob Marrow's character, Fleischman, less and less until he departs the show entirely.
The revival is set to bring back Marrow's character, reuniting him with John Corbett's Chris Stevens, Janine Turner's Maggie, and a cast of familiar and new faces. Let's see what this general practitioner is going to stir up in the tiny, fictional town of Cicely!
Roswell
Since it was canceled in 2002, fans of the extraterrestrial teen drama Roswell have been campaigning for a reboot. Season one of the series was first aired on the CW on January 2019, under the name Roswell: New Mexico, and has since been renewed for a second season.
The show revolves around the character Liz Ortcho as she goes back to her hometown and reconnects with her old high school crush, who is also a secret alien. To keep things in a modern-sphere, Liz's parents also happen to be illegal immigrants in a town with increasingly concerning race relations.
Queer As Folk
Initially a British series about a group of young gay men, the show was brought stateside in 2000 and was not well received. The newest version of Queer as Folk will bring the friend group to a new city, although details such as setting and cast are still on the down-low.
What we do know is that the reboot will be following the British series' premise very closely, as that version was quite successful. The storyline is going to follow a group of club-going young men who band together after they all suffer some tragedy.
