How To Look Like A Celebrity On Instagram
Instagram is where celebrities and regular Joe's meet. It's a special place in cyberspace where people can see how much celebrities are just like us. Now that we've seen how they manage their Instagram feeds, we can follow their lead.
If you want your Instagram to look like it belongs to an A-list celebrity, you're going to have to study some celebrity Instagram pages. We've done most of the studying for you, so you can just sit back, relax, and look at pictures of pretty people.
Kendall Jenner
So you want to look like a celebrity on Instagram? Easy. All you have to do is get a private jet and then stretch out your legs to show people how much more legroom you have than those peasants who fly on regular passenger planes.
Ok, so maybe you can't get a private jet, but you can flaunt what you do have. Clearly, Instagram is not the place to be humble.
Mandy Moore
Mandy Moore is a classy lady. She uses her Instagram page to promote her friends, her show, and projects she cares about. She posts some amateur photos, but she also posts lots of professional photos like this one.
You don't need much to get a professional looking photo. Just some good lighting, a tripod, and an understanding of your own angles. Do you think Mandy Moore is getting paid to wear that watch?
Zendaya
Ok, talk about a glamor shot. This kind of photo is a little bit more difficult to achieve on your own. Difficult doesn't mean impossible, though. Yeah, getting a photo like this would be a whole lot easier if you had a glam squad, but I'm sure you're a strong independent person who don't need no glam squad.
You can apply false eyelashes all on your own. It just might take you a little while.
Maisie Williams
Sometimes you just have to be basic and pose in front of some pastel street art. Maisie Williams gets it. Also, she's rocking a very cool pink hairdo. Yeah, this picture could have easily been cringey, but it's Maisie Williams, and she's owning this pose.
You have to fully commit to the 'gram if the 'gram is going to commit to you. That's the only way to make social media work.
Ryan Reynolds
Part of being a celebrity is knowing you're better than everyone else and that people literally look up to you. That's why this picture of Ryan Reynolds overlooking a cityscape is a perfect celebrity Instagram post.
If you posted a picture like this on Instagram, people would think that you're famous or something. They might even think that you're Ryan Reynolds. Just don't forget the glasses. The glasses are the most important part.
Kesha
When you mix patterns and colors and textures and sparkle, people can sense your confidence. People who wear crazy clothes are basically celebrities. I promise you, if you walk outside right now in a crazy colorful sequined jacket, people will stop you on the street and ask for a photo with you.
If you post a photo like this on Instagram, you're pretty much halfway to celebrity status. Yellow sunglasses are the perfect finishing touch.
Emma Roberts
Wait a minute, is Emma Roberts wearing the same watch as Mandy Moore? There's something fishy going on here. I'm starting to think that if you want to look like a celebrity on Instagram, you just have to get one of those watches.
Also, if you have a picture of yourself holding a mug and looking at the camera, everyone will think that you're somebody important. Hot beverages are for important people.
Gwyneth Paltrow
People who are rich and famous spend a lot of time on the beach— or at least, that's what it seems like from looking at their Instagram accounts. A few beach pictures could take your Instagram feed from drab to fab.
If you don't live near a beach or it's too cold out to walk along the sand in a bathing suit, fake it 'til you make it. Fake a beach in your house somehow, I don't know.
Chrissy Teigen
Chrissy Teigen posts tons of photos of her adorable kids, Luna and Miles. There's no better way to get Instagram likes than by posting pictures of adorable kids. People especially love newborn babies, so if you could go have a baby real quick, I'm sure that would make you a celebrity on Instagram.
Posing in a cool hat next to some pretty trees with your baby is probably a good move too.
Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian's Instagram feed is very carefully curated. She basically only posts photos that feature the colors pictured above. A good color theme means that you're thinking about your image.
The Kardashians are all about image. They have created a brand for themselves. You could use your Instagram page to reinforce your brand identity (especially if you're trying to sell some fancy eyeshadows).
Timothee Chalamet
Timothee Chalamet knows he's attractive. Why else would he be sitting so close to the camera? Part of being a celebrity is knowing that you're attractive. None of this "you don't know you're beautiful" One Direction shenanigans.
I promise if you take close-up shots of your face, everybody will think your Instagram page looks like it belongs to someone important (and someone who isn't insecure about the state of their skin).
Blake Lively
Clearly Blake Lively is a goddess on earth, but you could also look like a heavenly creature if you posted some pictures of yourself baking delicious treats with your friends. Instagram is the perfect place to put your baking photos. Who doesn't want to see photos of pretty cupcakes when they're bored and scrolling through Insta during a long work day?
Cupcakes make people happy. That's all you need to know.
Gigi Hadid
So, if you want your Instagram to look as impressive as Gigi Hadid's, you're going to have to grow ten-foot legs, get a helicopter, and then try to fit your giant legs in a helicopter that is obviously too small for them. Got all that?
Cool. If you can't afford a helicopter, just take a picture of yourself playing twister or something. Don't forget to use the black and white filter.
Kristen Bell
People love it when celebrities show how relatable they are on instagram. Never mind the kind of car they're in, pay attention to the strips of skin care under their eyes. See, celebrities are just like us. They don't wake up looking perfect.
Posting a "woke up like this" selfie is a good way to get your audience to see you as "trying hard to relate to the people." If you want to post like a celebrity, that's the exact vibe you're going for.
Amanda Seyfried
Pets make everything better. If Amanda Seyfried posted this picture of her face without a dog next to it, it wouldn't get nearly as many likes. While a lot of celebrities post photos of their pets, Amanda Seyfried posts a lot of photos of her dog (and best friend) Finn.
She doesn't post any pictures of her kid, though. She's definitely not taking Chrissy Teigen's approach to Instagram. To each their own, I guess.
Emily Ratajkowski
What lessons can we take from Emily Ratajkowski's Instagram? Basically that it's good to have a perfect body and be very very attractive. Yeah, I know there's no such thing as a perfect body, but if there was, Emily Ratajkowski would have one.
What I'm saying is, if you want to look like a celebrity on Instagram, you kind of also have to look like a celebrity. Facetune helps. All the celebrities are using it.
Taylor Swift
#SquadGoals are a huge part of being a celebrity on Instagram. You have to have famous friends or else what's the point of being famous? Taylor Swift is basically the definition of #SquadGoals. In this photo, all of her friends dressed up as inspirational women from history or from fiction, and they all look amazing.
This is what I want my squad to look like. If your friends aren't willing to dress up as mermaids for you, are they really your friends?
Alison Brie
Wearing a fashionable outfit in front of a cool, Californian background is a great way to get people to think you're important.
Alison Brie looks like she owns that stone driveway. You know what, she probably does. But you don't actually have to own a driveway to look like a celebrity on Instagram. You just have to look like you could own a driveway. It's a very different game. Also, get some yellow shoes.
Elisabeth Moss
This is what's called a power stance. If you strike a pose like this, people will automatically know that you're an important person who stays in hotels and wears fancy clothes. Elisabeth Moss has been on two Emmy-winning shows.
She knows her worth. If you're wearing a dress like this one, you don't even need a fancy background or nice lighting— any random hallway will work just fine.
Kylie Jenner
Kylie Jenner didn't become the youngest billionaire by accident. This girl knows a thing or two about branding. Do you think her lip kits are better than any other liquid lipstick? Of course not. They're painfully average.
People like them because they are branded Kylie Lip Kits. When you look like Kylie on social media, it doesn't even matter what you look like in real life. Check out Kylie's Instagram feed if you want to learn a thing or two about marketing.
Reese Witherspoon
The best thing about this photo is that I almost don't know if it was taken during a professional shoot, or if one of Reese's kids was just running by with an iPhone. She looks so nonchalant. Also, that white dress is way too perfect.
So, if you want to recreate this photo at home, strike a pose that seems effortless, but that actually took a lot of effort. Seeming effortless is the key.
Nicki Minaj
Well, this pose doesn't seem very effortless at all, but then again, effortless is not a word I would ever use to describe Nicki Minaj. Here's another approach you could take: strike a very forced pose and wear cool clothes while doing it.
Whoever took this picture is obviously some kind of pro, because I don't see any reflection of them in the window behind Nicki. I suspect some fancy cropping was involved.
Jaden Smith
If the sky turns purple for you and you capture it on Instagram, then you've definitely got this celeb Instagram thing down. Do you think Jaden Smith used a filter for this picture? Maybe, but I don't really have strong feelings about if he did or he didn't.
The point is that the sky is purple. If you can make the sky purple in your Instagram pictures, then you're as cool as Jaden Smith.
Ariana Grande
Taylor Swift's squad goals were strong, but Ariana is coming for her title. This pop star's new anthem is about buying 7 Tiffany engagement rings for 7 of her closest friends. Now that's #SquadGoals.
This picture has a clear color theme (as does Ari's entire Instagram feed). We could all learn a thing or two from this queen. Basically, pink is good, friends are better, and diamonds definitely don't hurt.
Samira Wiley
Two words: sun flare. Every good Instagram account has at least some sun flare in it. If you want to look like you're having fun in the sun with Samira Wiley, you need to get a picture with some sun flare in it.
A red bathing suit is also going to boost your celebrity status. Basically, you just want to look like someone around you has a very expensive camera at the ready at all times.
Selena Gomez
Remember what we just said about sun? Sun is your friend. Step into the sunlight. Selena Gomez is using sunlight to her advantage in this gorgeous photo. There's a reason why Selena has one of the most followed Instagram accounts of all time.
Yes, it's because she's Selena Gomez, but it's also because she knows how to take good pictures. You have to strike that fine balance between professional photos and candid shots.
Chloe Grace Moretz
All of the photos Chloe Grace Moretz posts on Instagram have some kind of border around them, usually a thick white border. Chloe has made Instagram her own. She's done away with the generic form and imposed her own aesthetic on the platform.
If you're feeling really bold, delete all of your Instagram pictures and start fresh with this mindset. Make it your own. You're too famous to follow anybody else's rules.
Viola Davis
This photo screams old Hollywood. It's impossible to look at this picture and not see Viola Davis as a bona fide star. Everything from the lights to the dress to the chair is absolutely perfect.
Vanity mirrors are amazing. Have a friend snap a photo of you the next time you're at the end of your makeup routine, just putting on those finishing touches. Also, a designer sparkly champagne dress wouldn't hurt.
Beyoncé
There's no way we could talk about celebrity Instagram without talking about the queen herself, Mrs. Beyoncé Knowles Carter. Beyonce doesn't shove multiple pictures into one Instagram post. She's not into that sideways scroll life.
She always posts three pictures of herself in the same outfit striking three different poses. She doesn't care if that clogs up your feed. She's the only thing on your feed that really matters anyway.
Anne Hathaway
This no-nonsense stare is the perfect celebrity Instagram post. It's in black and white, she looks like she's better than us, those sunglasses probably cost more than my whole outfit... this is how you do it, people.
Just stare at the camera like an annoying fan won't leave you alone while you're trying to enjoy your cold brew latte. You don't have to put up with any of that. Show them how you feel with the tension in your mouth.
