From Disney Channel Stars To Locked Behind Bars
Take a look at some of our favorite Disney Channel stars that made some bad decisions and ended up in the clink!
Today, it is far from surprising to read and see intimidate details about your favorite Disney Channel stars who are on a downward spiral (thanks, paparazzi). But perhaps earning $25,000 per episode when you're just a kid is a recipe for disaster. Although a few of our favorite childhood stars stayed squeaky clean into adulthood, some fell off the bandwagon. From DUIs to bank robberies and even a manslaughter charge, let's take a look at some of the Disney Channel stars who spent time behind bars.
Shia LaBeouf's Crazy Antics
You likely remember him best for his role as Louis, the seventh-grade misfit in the Disney Channel series Even Stevens. Or perhaps for his performance as Stanley Yelnats in the movie Holes. Unfortunately, Shia LaBeouf has become better known for his off-screen antics than his acting chops in recent years.
LaBeouf's trouble started in 2008 when he was arrested for driving under the influence. What followed was a string of weird antics (think: trespassing at a Walgreens and live-tweeting his LSD experience) before another arrest for public intoxication in 2015.
"I Play The Crack Pipe"
Remember that one guy from High School Musical whose only line was "I play the cello" yet everyone still knew who he was? That was Dutch Elija Whitlock. Despite High School Musical's success, Whitlock apparently gave up on acting in favor of robbery.
In 2008, he was arrested for robbing The Five Buck Pizza in Holladay at gunpoint. He had worked there before, so it wasn't the most secretive of crimes. Although Whitlock, as well as the other robber, wore bandanas over their faces, the employees still knew that it was him. Once they told the police who it was it wasn't hard for them to track him down and arrest him.
Jason Weaver Just Couldn't Hold It
Actor Jason Weaver who played the oldest brother (Marcus Henderson) from television show Smart Guy was arrested in July 2011, for something a bit unusual. Weaver was caught by the police defecating on someone's lawn in Atlanta Georgia, which he was then taken to jail for.
Weaver denies these allegations...sort of...saying that although he did get arrested, it was for peeing in the back of a gas station at 2 am.—not pooping in someone's yard. Guess we'll never know the full truth except that Weaver spent an evening in the clink.
Lalaine Vergara Hides It From The Public
Lalaine Vergara is known for her role as Miranda Sanchez, Lizzie's best friend in the television show Lizzie McGuire. In July 2007, she was arrested for the possession of crystal meth, yet managed to keep it under wraps until it surfaced in April 2008.
Vergara pled guilty to the charges and was fined $50,000 when she didn't show up for court. The bench warrant for he arrest was dismissed when she went to court in February, and her record was later expunged after completing a drug-treatment program.
Goldberg From "The Mighty Ducks" Has Personal Issues To Address
Actor Shaun Weiss, who played Greg Goldberg in the 1990s Mighty Ducks movie series as well as "Josh" in 1995's Heavyweights, was arrested in California in August 2018. He was publicly intoxicated and "behaving erratically with flashlights,” according to police. After being taken to jail for a few hours he was released without charges.
Fans were stunned by Weiss' mugshot, which shows that he's aged dramatically since his days as a child actor. People quickly responded to the photo on social media with comments like "Oh no. Goldberg from Mighty Ducks was arrested. Yes, this is him. He's 39 years old. Oh no," and "Of all the depressing mugshots in all the world, this one hit me the hardest." Let's hope Weiss is able to get the help he needs.
Not So Innocent Mitchel Musso
Mitchel Musso made the most of his time at Disney by managing to work on the television show Hannah Montana, as well as Disney Channel movies like Life is Ruff. He was a household name among Disney fans, which was why it came to a shock to audiences when he was arrested in 2011.
The arrest was for a DUI after he failed to slow down for the police as he was getting pulled over. Because he was 20 years old at the time, he was released on a $5,000 bail. It seems he has managed to stay out of trouble since the incident.
Phil Lewis' Past Mistakes
Phil Lewis, better known as Mr. Moseby from The Suite Life of Zack & Cody as well as all of the series' spin-offs has an exceptionally dark past. Back in 1991, he was arrested not just for drunk driving, but for manslaughter as well. Lewis was 24 at the time when he was driving and collided head-on with a 21-year-old girl.
His blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit. Upon impact, she died instantly. Lewis ended up spending a year in jail and two years on probation and had to complete 350 hours of community service. All of this happened before he ever stepped on a Disney set.
Britney Spears Was A Disney Star
Not everyone remembers, but Britney Spears was a Disney Channel star back in the day. She was a former Micky Mouse Club star along with numerous now-older celebrities. However, the Queen of Pop has been taken to jail more than just once.
Her most notable arrest was in 2007 when she was involved in a hit-and-run accident. As if fleeing the scene wasn't enough, when she was caught, it turned out that she was driving without a license.
Britney Spears Was Arrested Over a Custodial Dispute
A year after Britney Spear's first arrest, she was arrested again over a custodial dispute. On September 24, 2008, police responded to a call about a custodian dispute between Spears and ex-husband Kevin Federline. Spears was detained by police and taken for evaluation at a nearby hospital after she refused to hand her kids over to their father.
She was taken on a stretcher to the Cedar Sinai Hospital after police suspected she was under the influence of an unknown substance.
Anneliese van der Pol Hit-And-Run
Known for her role in That's So Raven, Anneliese van der Polwas arrested on July 10, 2006, after driving into a parked car. Apparently, the crash caused several other cars to crash into each other. The initial crash caused her to lose control of her vehicle and hit another car.
She was arrested for driving under the influence with a .19 blood-alcohol level which is over twice the legal limit. She was offered given 36-months probation and a penalty of $2,844 in fines and assessments, in addition to attending an alcohol education program.
Brian Bonsall Has Aged Quite A Bit
Brian Bonsall was known for his role in the 1980's show Family Ties, as well as for his star role in the Dinsey Channel original movie Blank Check, in 1994. After that film, he said goodbye to his acting career to pursue other interests.
Like lots of other child stars, Bonsall was arrested in 2001 for driving under the influence and again in 2004 for the same reason. He was arrested in 2009 for violating conditions of his bond and testing positive for marijuana.
Brian Bonsall's Third-Degree Assault Charges
While Brian Bonsall's first three arrests were drug and alcohol related, his crimes began turning violent. In 2009, he was accused of hitting his best friend, Michael Trujillo, in the face with a broken stool and faced third-degree assault charges as a result.
Apparently, an altercation began between the two friends which led to Bonsall picking up a stool, breaking it over a stair railing, and striking Trujillo five to six times in the face. The fight moved outside and Bonsall proceeded to choke Trujillo. Neighbors heard the commotion and immediately called the police.
Getting The Help He Needs
On top of his other legal issues, Brian Bonsall also faced a felony second-degree assault charge in connection with a 2007 assault on his girlfriend. He was ordered to two years' probation and to attend domestic violence classes, but the former child star failed to meet these requirements.
Although Bonsall violated the terms of his probation, he didn't end up behind bars. Instead, he checked into a mental health facility admitting his struggles with addiction and bipolar disorder. Let's hope he gets the care he needs.
Orlando Brown Isn't A "Proud" Kid Anymore
Orlando Brown made his mark on the Disney Chanel with his lead roles in That's So Raven and The Proud Family. It was the year after That's So Raven ended, that Brown began to get into trouble with the law.
In April 2007, he was arrested for marijuana possession. He was arrested again in 2011 for driving under the influence in West Hollywood. To make matters worse, his pregnant girlfriend was in the car with him. Just a year later he was arrested twice for failing to complete the conditions of his probation from his previous DUI in 2011.
David Henrie Was Protecting His Brother
David Henrie is most recognized for his roles in the television show Wizards of Waverly Place, That's So Raven, and Dadnapped. In 2010, while still filming Wizards of Waverly Place, he and his younger brother Lorenzo were arrested while at Universal City Walk in California.
Apparently, the two got into a verbal confrontation with another group which developed into a physical altercation. As it turns out, Henrie was just trying to protect his little brother but was detained nonetheless. Since then, he has had no other issues with the law or authorities.
Shia Is Arrested Again...And Again
Shia LaBeouf became a fan-favorite as Lewis Stevens on Disney's hot series Even Stevens. But as his outlandish behavior in recent years has shown, maybe he's more like Lewis in real life than anyone ever thought.
Following Shia's first two arrests, he faced legal trouble again in January 2017 and July 2017. In January 2017, Shia was arrested in New York after getting into a scuffle with a man at his own art show, which was an anti-Trump art installation. Rumors of the incident quickly spread over social media with many witnesses saying Shia was attacked by a Nazi.
Arrested At An Anti-Trump Protest
Shia has not been mum about his distaste for the current POTUS. In online videos, Shia has frequently expressed outrage aimed at Donald Trump, often using expletive-laden language to ask how the public can make it normal to "be a Nazi out here."
During the protest, a police officer approached Shia and the two quickly got into a verbal altercation before the police officer put the actor in handcuffs and escorted him out of the protest. He was eventually charged with misdemeanor assault and harassment and was issued a desk appearance ticket for April 4, 2017, but not jailed.
Arrested For Disorderly Conduct
Following his January 2017 arrests, many people commended Shia for standing up for what he believed in. The actor received an outpouring of support from fans who thought he was wrongly arrested at the anti-Trump protest and claimed the actor was non-violent and wrongly accused of assault.
In any case, Shia did not serve jail time but was arrested again a few months later for an unrelated crime. July 2017, he was arrested and charged with obstruction, disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness in Georgia.
Mackenzie Phillips Had A Weird Couple Years
In Disney Channel's iconic show So Weird, Mackenzie Phillips played the role of the super laid-back and very cool mom, Molly. However, it looks like there was a reason that she was so "chill" all of the time. In 2008, Phillips was arrested after airport security discovered she was in possession of heroin and cocaine.
As Phillips was being screened by airport security, a small amount of what appeared to be cocaine and heroin were found on her person in balloons and baggies according to Sgt. Jim Holcomb. She was promptly arrested.
Mackenzie Phillips Bail Is Set At $10,000
According to People magazine, Mackenzie Phillips was taken to Van Nuys police station where her bail was set at $10,000. At the time, this didn't come as a huge shock, because she had been struggling with drug addiction for years.
She eventually wrote a book called High On Arrival, in which she came forward with her story of sexual abuse and drug addiction. Today, she is sober and says she is at peace with her tumultuous past.
Omar Gooding Is Wild & Crazy!
From 1997-1999, Omar Gooding starred in the Disney Channel original seriesSmart Guy. As well as being a star on the hit series, he is also the younger brother of Cuba Gooding Jr. After Smart Guy, he went on to become the host of the Nickelodeon show Wild & Crazy Kids! where he became even more recognized in children's television.
In August 2013, in Los Angeles, Gooding was arrested for driving under the influence and was taken to jail. He was later released on his own recognizance. Like other Disney stars, it took this one lesson to set him straight.
Christina Aguilera's Unfortunate Arrest
Before she became the famous pop singer that we know of today, Christina Aguilera got her start in entertainment while acting on The New Mickey Mouse Club from 1989 to 1994. After her time on Disney, she went on to have a successful music career releasing award-winning albums like Stripped, Back to Basics, and her self-titled chart-topper.
Following the release of her 2010 album Bionic, she was arrested for public intoxication. When she was arrested, she was the passenger in the car with her boyfriend at the time who then received a DUI. Both of the two met bail and eventually all of the charges were dropped against them.
Ryan Merriman Was Not So Lucky
If you consider yourself to be a Disney Channel original movie fan, then surely you're familiar with the movies Smart House and The Luck of the Irish, starring Ryan Merriam. After his time in the Disney spotlight from 1999 to 2001, he essentially went off the grid except for acting in a few B-movies here and there.
Nobody really spoke of him except when reminiscing on old Disney Channel movies. However, he came back into the limelight when he was arrested in 2011 on suspicion of a DUI. This was most likely connected to the divorce of his wife after seven years.
Joey Cramer Goes Off The Rails
Former Disney Channel star Joey Cramer from the film Flight of the Navigator was arrested in 2016 for robbing a bank in Canada. At 42 years old, he put on a wig, walked into a Scotiabank, and demanded and an undisclosed amount of money.
Apparently, despite his disguise, officers recognized who he was, not from his prior childhood stardom but from criminal issues in the past. He was arrested for robbery, disguise with the intent to commit an indictable offense, failing to stop for a police officer and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Debby Ryan Learned Her Lesson
Debby Ryan is a newer Disney Channel star than most of the others on our list. She began her time at Disney starring in the Suite Life on Deck as Bailey Prickett who was also featured in numerous other cross-over Disney shows. Shen then starred in her own show titled Jessie which aired for five years.
Being an attractive Disney girl, it wasn't surprising that she added a music career to her resume as well as an arrest for a DUI in 2016. Though for Debby, this was not a repeated offense and it appears this was a one-and-done kind of deal.
Kirsten Storms Was Up In Space
You probably recognize Kirsten Storms for her stellar performance in the Disney Channel original movie Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century. The star went on to star in numerous soap operas like Days of Our Lives, Clubhouse, and General Hospital before leaving the show after an endometriosis diagnosis.
At the height of her soap opera days in 2007, she was pulled over by the police for tossing a lit cigarette out of her car onto the freeway. She was then arrested for driving under the influence pleaded no contest. She got off relatively easy with three years probation. She hasn't had any troubles with the law since.
Justin Martin Serves Time For Gun Crimes
In July 2015, High School Musical 3 star Justin Martin pleaded guilty to gun charges. Martin was walking down the street when he and another man were approached by officers after being spotted with a handgun. Martin and the friend ran and shot at the police. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but Martin was sentenced to 18 months behind bars and was given one year of probation.
Following his arrest, Martin began speaking at schools around Boston to educate high school students about making good choices, gun violence, and drug use. Martin said that he focuses his speeches on "being accountable for your actions" and emphasizes that "one mistake doesn’t have to define your life."
Mischa Living That O.C. Lifestyle
While she might be best known for her role as Marissa Cooper on the hit T.V. show The O.C., she had a starring role in A Ring of Endless Light, a Disney Channel original movie based on the book of the same name.
In 2007, Barton was pulled over early in the morning after her vehicle was seen straddling two lanes of traffic, and was arrested for DUI and driving without a valid license, as well as possession of Marijuana. Her career would take a noticeable shift after the incident, and she has yet to reach those same highs.
Kelli Berglund, Is That You?
When you reach the heights of fame so many of these stars did, you tend to make your mark in the public eye faster than the average star. So when you're out at a music festival like Coachella, it's easy to fall into temptation and try and act above your age.
Berglund, who plays Bree Davenport on the kids show Lab Rats, was caught using a fake I..D trying to get into the restricted zone to meet her friends. She was picked up and taken to the police station for fingerprints and was issued a citation.
Brandon Without A Chance
Brandon Mychal Smith, better known as Nico Harris on Sonny With A Chance, was able to get his big break with Disney way back in 2009. Alongside co-star Demi Lovato, who played Sonny, the show ran for two seasons and put together 47 episodes.
In 2017, Smith was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor DUI, and was in custody for several hours before posting a $15,000 bail. His blood alcohol level reportedly tested at twice the legal limit when he was driving his Rolls-Royce at nearly eight in the morning.
Jake T. Austin Got Off Easy
Jake T. Austin started his acting career when he was just eight years old as the voice of Diego on Dora the Explorer. He went on to voice Diego in the spin-off series Go, Diego, Go! until he landed a role on Wizards of Waverly Place.
Despite his characters' squeaky clean persona, Jake seems to be a little less-than-angelic. In November 2013, the actor was charged with hitting three parked cars and fleeing the scene. Witness say they saw Jake throw a bottle of Ciroc out of the car right before calling an Uber to leave before the cops arrived. The judge ultimately concluded that although he fled, Jake reported the incident to the police within a reasonable time. Celebrities have it so easy.
Jake T. Austin Got Off Easy, Twice
As if narrowly avoiding driving under the influence and hit and run charges wasn't enough, Jake tried his luck again the next year in October 2014. He was pulled over for driving without his headlights on. While the officer was approaching the actor's car, he smelled booze and performed a field sobriety test.
Jake performed poorly and was subsequently arrested. He was initially charged with two counts of driving under the influence but his lawyer got the charges dismissed in exchange or a speeding charge and two years probation.
Ryan Gosling Joins The DUI Club
As much as we'd love to believe that Ryan Gosling is absolutely perfect in every single way, he too makes mistakes. The former Disney star got his start on The All-New Mickey Mouse Club (although he was often overshadowed by the likes of Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears) when he was just a young boy. He and Timberlake were even roomies while they were both on the show. That aside, Gosling has made the list of ex-Disney starts with a record.
In 2005, Gosling was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. But instead of hiring an attorney, he took the high road and owned up to what he had done. This earned him a lesser charge for speeding.
Orlando Brown Is At It Again
Following his arrests in 2007 and 2011, Orlando Brown was arrested again in 2016. The former That's So Raven actor was driving with his girlfriend when the two got into a heated argument. He pulled into a police station parking lot and eventually struck his girlfriend. Witness had seen the pair arguing a few miles away and had tipped off police. Bloom just happened to make locating him convenient considering he decided to park at the police station.
When authorities came to assess the situation, they asked Brown to leave his car but he refused. He was eventually taken to the jail where cops found that Brown had meth on him.
Aaron Carter's Public Struggles
Alright, so Aaron Cartner may not have technically been a Disney star, but who could forget his iconic appearance on the Christmas episode of Lizzie McGuire?! Plus, his music videos were played all the time on the Disney channel, so we're making Aaron an honorary Disney star.
Unfortunately, the singer-actor's glory days spewing raps with Shaq are long gone. The celebrity has been involved in his share of controversies over the years and was arrested in July 2017 for driving under the influence and possession of marijuana in Georgia with his girlfriend.
From Star Wars To Hide-Speed Chases
In 2012, The Walt Disney Company bought Lucasfilm for a cool $4.06 billion. This means the Star Wars franchise is now owned by Disney and all of the actresses and actors are Disney stars...right?...Right.
For this arrest, we've got to rewind to Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Jake Lloyd was young whippersnapper best known for playing Anakin in the blockbuster. In June 2015, he was arrested in South Carolina after leading police on a high-speed chase. Although he wasn't intoxicated, he was booked for failing to stop for officers, resisting arrest, reckless driving, and driving without a license.
Lindsay Lohan's Downward Spiral
Although she was never a television series regular, Lindsay Lohan was in a handful of classic Disney movies including The Parent Trap, Life-Size and Get a Clue. Without a doubt, she has secured a place in place in the annals of Disney history. Yet, in 2007, the adorable and innocent Disney star began to shed her good girl persona.
She was arrested for the first time on May 26, 2007, for driving under the influence and possession of cocaine. She had lost control of her Mercedes and found herself in the middle of a booze-fueled car accident in Beverly Hills.
Arrested Again Just Two Months Later
Lindsay Lohan didn't serve any jail time for her run-in with the law in May 2007 but had her license suspended. Instead of keeping a low profile, just two months later she was taken into custody in Santa Monica on suspicion of driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and possession of cocaine. Just prior to her arrest, witnesses saw the actress get into a verbal argument with a woman who Lindsay then chased in her SUV.
She eventually pled guilty to misdemeanor cocaine use and driving under the influence. She was sentenced to one day in jail (she ended up serving 84 minutes), 10 days of community service, and three years' probation.
A Warrant Is Issued
Being a star means your schedule is jam-packed. But if a judge requires you to complete an alcohol education program, you should probably get it done and not give any excuses. Unfortunately for Lindsay, she was too busy to complete her court-ordered program.
The judge went easy on her and extended her probation for an additional year. Stil, the star put off completing her program and skipped a court date to attend the Cannes film festival. The result? The not-so-pleased judge immediately issued a warrant was issued for her arrest on May 20, 2010, and set her bail at $100,000.
Lindsay's Last Arrest Was In 2012
Following her arrest in early 2010, the actress still had a long road of legal issues ahead of her. She found herself in trouble for a slew of other crimes including drinking while wearing her SCRAM bracelet, failing to attend weekly alcohol education classes, flunking a drug test, and even stealing a $2,500 necklace from a shop in Venice, California.
For the robbery, she was given 120 days in county jail and 480 hours of community service. Finally, in 2012, she was arrested for clipping a man with her car outside of New York City's posh Dream Hotel and leaving the scene. But due to insufficient evidence, the charges were dropped.
On The Right Track Today?
Between 2007 and 2012, she was arrested for everything from driving under the influence and cocaine possession to violating probation, burglary, and a hit-and-run. Thankfully, since 2013, he has been making an effort to watch her behavior and it appears she's doing a good job so far. Now in her thirties, the star has taken a much-needed hiatus from the glitz and glamour (and ultimate chaos) of Hollywood.
In a May 2017 interview with People, Lindsay said although she misses Hollywood, she has found peace away from the spotlight.
Billy Unger Just Scrapes By
Sometimes celebrities just scrape by when they're dealing with the law. That's pretty much what happened with Billy Unger, who could have been in some serious trouble. Unger, known for his role as Chase Davenport in the Disney XD sitcom, Lab Rats, was arrested in 2014 after being caught drinking and driving.
Apparently, he blew a .08 on a breathalyzer, which is technically the legal limit to drive. The only problem is that Unger was not only speeding on Pacific Coast Highway in California, but he was only 18 at the time. He worked out a plea bargain and instead of jail time, he was given two years probation.
Hudgens Instagram Gets Her In Trouble
When you're on vacation, you'll do almost anything for the perfect Instagram picture, and even for celebrities, that can come back to bite them. In February of 2016, Hudgens was investigated for defacing rocks in Coconino National Forest in Arizona.
Apparently, she posted a picture on Instagram after she wrote "Austin + Vanessa" inside of a heart on a rock on Valentine's Day. Sure, it was a romantic gesture, but it also cost her a $1,000 fine. While it might not exactly be the most extravagant crime, it's good to see that even the most simple crimes can still impact celebrities.
Prokop Gets Restrained
Another former High School Musical actor who found himself in hot water, Matt Prokop found his relationship with Modern Family star Sarah Hyland anything but smooth. Prokop, best known for his role as Jimmie "The Rocket Man" Zara in High School Musical 3: Senior Year, had a five-year relationship with Hyland, or Haley Dunphy for all you Modern Family fans.
After their relationship ended, Hyland filed a restraining order against Prokop, accusing him of "pushing" and "coking" her to the point where she was "in fear for her life." According to reports, Prokop verbally and physically abused her throughout their relationship.
The Beginning Of The End
Court documents of the couple's relationship clearly paint a negative picture of Prokop. Hyland claimed that Prokop held her up against a car during an argument over the way she dressed, and used derogatory language towards her and her appearance, all as he was choking her.
"His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life," Hyland claimed. Hyland asked fellow costar Julie Bowen and others to come to her house and help end the relationship with Prokop, but Prokop instead threw a tantrum and apparently threatened to set fire to her house.
Prokop Was Relentless
After Prokop's tantrum which included threatening setting fire to Hyland's house, as well as threatening her dog, things only got worse as Prokop continued to spiral. Prokop "relentlessly bombarded Hyland with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voicemails including his own suicide threats."
Prokop had a stint in rehab, and the facility even suggested Hyland get a restraining order against Prokop, citing his mental state. Hyland would be granted a three-year restraining order against Prokop for herself and her dog, ensuring that Prokop stays at least 100 yards away from her at all times.
Drake's Mistake
Drake Bell starred in the hit show Drake And Josh, alongside Josh Nichols in which the two played teenage boys with opposite personalities who become stepbrothers. Both previously appeared on The Amanda Show, starring another trouble Nickelodeon star coming up later on the list.
Bell was arrested in 2015 on suspicion of driving under the influence after cops stopped Bell for speeding and crossing over two lanes. After he was pulled over, police noticed an odor of alcohol stemming from the car, and Bell failed a field sobriety test.
Massey Argues At Marquee
Chris Massey, star of Zoey 101 where he played Michael Barret, was yet another star who battled with the law, this time in a domestic violence case. In 2016, Massey was arrested after getting into an argument with his reality star girlfriend Cassalei Jackson at the Marquee Club at Cosmo.
Allegedly, he pushed her to the ground, and was detained by security when cops arrived. Interestingly, Jackson is the daughter of Shar Jackson, who had two kids with Kevin Federline, but K-Fed isn't Cassalei's father. Cassalei and Shar both starred on the show "The Mother/Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition."
Another Zoey 101 Star
What was it about Zoey 101 and its stars getting into legal trouble? Surely it wasn't the fact that Jamie Lynn Spears' sister ended up on this list too right? Matthew Underwood, who played Zoey's frenemy Logan on the show, was arrested in 2012 on suspicion of cannabis and paraphernalia possession and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Cops let themselves into his house after knocks went unanswered, and their search turned up cannabis which Underwood admitted was his. He was found in the master bedroom along with a 17-year-old girl, and both were taken into custody. The girl remained unidentified because she was a minor, and was released to her grandfather, while Underwood posted bail.
Booze Classes
This Nickelodeon star avoided jail time by striking a pretty interesting plea deal. In 2013, Hollywood Heights star Cody Longo, better known as Eddie Duran on the show, was pulled over for repeatedly flashing another driver with his high beams. The cops determined that Longo was under the influence and placed him under arrest, charging the actor with two counts of DUI.
Luckily for Longo, instead of serving any jail time, he was able to strike a plea deal, agreeing to plead no contest, and instead was ordered to complete three months of alcohol education classes, as well as attend 10 AA classes while being placed on three years summary probation.
Canadian Horror Story
Two stars of the hit show American Horror Story got into an altercation while in Canada that ended with one star in some serious hot water. Emma Roberts, who as a Nickelodeon actress starred on Unfabulous, was arrested in 2013 after allegedly getting into a physical altercation with her boyfriend, Evan Peters, who also is a star of AHS.
Roberts, who is the niece of Julia Roberts, was taken into custody at a Montreal hotel after allegedly "bloodying up" Peters. Peters suffered from a bloody nose and a bite mark, and Roberts was held until her release after Peters refused to press charges.
Rottman Reeked
What is it about celebrities getting caught drinking and driving? Why don't they simply pay for a taxi? Ryan Rottman is yet another celebrity who was caught behind the wheel after a night of drinking. Rottman, who starred in Gigantic, apparently jumped the curb in Hollywood and was promptly arrested.
According to the police, Rottman reeked of alcohol when the police pulled him over, and failed his field sobriety test, blowing a .19, which was twice the legal limit. He was taken away to jail, but released just a few hours later.
Not So Mighty Morphin Power Ranger
It takes a lot to be a Power Ranger, even if there have been a ton over the years. Anyone who watches any of the Power Rangers remakes knows that the Red Ranger was generally the one in charge, so it's big news when a Red Ranger gets into trouble in real life.
Ricardo Medina Jr. earned the distinction of the Red Ranger in Power Rangers: Samurai, but ended up putting his samurai skills to use in his real life. Medina Jr. would end up fatally stabbing his roommate with a samurai sword, and would be held on a $1 million bail. He would eventually be released and no charges were laid against him.
Welcome To Good Burger
Longtime Saturday Night Live cast member Kenan Thompson has the distinction of being the longest-serving member of all time, but before that, he was on Nickelodeon, serving as an original cast member of the sketch comedy series All That, and later starring in the hit movie Good Burger.
His brush with the law was pretty minimal. In 2008, the police were called when neighbors called when they saw Thompson driving erratically. No charges were laid on him, and he stayed out of trouble throughout his career.
Amanda Bynes' Wild Ride
While Disney has built a small empire of former child actors and actresses that have made waves in the headlines, Nickelodeon has it's share too. Amanda Bynes is probably the most famous of all. Bynes, star of The Amanda Show, has had a notable downslide since reaching such incredible highs in the public eye. In 2012, Bynes first run-in with the law occurred when she was pulled over for talking on her cell phone.
Bynes made the seemingly innocent crime much worse by fleeing the scene before the officer finished writing the ticket. She avoided arrest by reportedly going to the station and signing her ticket. While that crime was relatively minor, it quickly spiraled after that.
Her First Arrest
Just a few months after that incident, Bynes once again found herself in trouble while behind the wheel. Bynes was arrested for DUI when she was driving in West Hollywood around 3 a.m. Bynes apparently tried to pass a police car in her BMW and side-swiped the vehicle.
At the scene of the accident, Bynes refused to take a Breathalyzer or drug test, and was taken into custody. She would be released from jail after posting a $5,000 bail. Bynes would be chared with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and would plead not guilty, facing a maximum of six months in jail.
2012 Was A Wild Year
Not even two months later, Bynes once again caused some trouble with her care after allegedly rear-ending a driver on Ventura Boulevard, inflicting $800 worth of damage. Bynes, apparently seeing no problem with the car, drove away without exchanging insurance information or allowing the driver to call the police to assess the situation.
According to Bynes, the two agreed that there was no real damage and therefore no need for police intervention. She would be charged with hit-and-run in September of that year in connection with the April and August crashes. Her license would be suspended and she faced up to a year in jail.
Things Continue To Spiral
After her run-ins with the law behind the wheel and her license now suspended, Bynes found herself in trouble once again, this time for allegedly tossing a bong out of her Manhattan apartment window. An employee reported to police that Bynes was allegedly smoking marijuana in the building's lobby, and supposedly talking to herself.
Bynes would be charged with attempted evidence tampering, reckless endangerment, and marijuana possession. She would once again get caught driving under the influence in 2014 after apparently developing a serious weed problem. That arrest would trigger a number of legal problems as she was already on probation for a reckless driving conviction.
Finally On The Right Path
After so many years of legal trouble, 2017 offers a sign of hope for the troubled actress. She was finally off probation stemming from her 2014 DUI, and apparently doing much better. Bynes is now attending the Fashion Institue of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, and is working on a fashion line that she plans to debut at the end of 2017.
According to her attorney Tamar Arminak, "she is happy and healthy, and doing great at school. She is focusing on her very own fashion line which is shaping up to be amazing."
Did Miranda Cosgrove Get Arrested?
This is one of the wildest stories out there on the internet. In 2017, a report surfaced that Miranda Cosgrove, star of iCarly and later Despicable Me, was arrested for prostitution. This was first reported by NotThis News, a parody Twitter account. A video on their site claimed that "Miranda Cosgrove is in custody today. The 'iCarly' star was arrested at a truck stop last night for prostitution.
The Nickelodeon royalty was seen parading through the streets in Compton, California, exchanging money for sex."The video also alleged that Cosgrove was going to rehab for a. glue-sniffing addiction.
The Backlash From The 'Story'
Fans were noticeably outraged by the allegations, and took to Twitter to voice their displeasure. Many were heartbroken by the story, assuming it to be true, while those who realized that the article was a parody with the video made up largely of pieces from the iCarly show, made sure to respond with iCarly memes to continue the parody online.
Overall, the video received well over 1 million views. Cosgrove quickly dispelled any notion that she was locked behind bars by posting on social media, mainly her Instagram, which would be pretty hard if she was in jail.
