Celebrity Makeup Fails That Will Make You Rethink Your Blending Technique
Whether they're red carpet ready or just strolling down the street, celebrities typically have their makeup camera-ready when they're out in public. Well, unfortunately for some celebrities, makeup fails are real and totally noticeable, no matter how much retouching is done in photoshop.
We're talking the wrong shade of foundation, way too much highlighter underneath the eyes, and much more. Most stars have fallen victim to one of two blunders, even people who have created makeup empires. Yes, we're looking at you, Kylie Jenner. Get ready; it's hard to un-see these celebrity makeup fails.
Angelina Jolie Forgot She had Powder On Her Face
While we understand how someone might leave the house without double-checking that the sprinkle of powder they applied is blended in, this is a bit much. In Angelina Jolie's case, it's less of a sprinkle and more like a white streak. We're not sure how no one told the actress about the flour-like appearance of her already prominent jawline, forehead, and even her chest.
Did she get into a flour fight with her kids before heading to the HBO premiere of The Normal Heart? It's literally the only explanation we can come to because this is one of the biggest powder fails we've seen in some time.
Lindsay Lohan Went A Bit hard With The Contour Blush
When your complexion is as light as Lindsay Lohan's, using a dark contour blush is definitely a power move. If applied properly, it can give a nice touch of color to otherwise pale cheeks. Lohan, on the other hand, did not apply the earth tone correctly, by any means of the imagination.
Instead of blending the brown color into her skin, it looks like the actress took a paintbrush and did one bold stroke across her cheek. We can't even imagine what she would look like head-on with these two distinct brown streaks. It might even look like there was dirt on her face, honestly.
Tyra Banks' Knock-Off Swan Lake Look
Considering that Tyra Banks is a fashion icon, model, and owner of the makeup line Tyra Beauty, this makeup fail comes as a huge surprise. Not only is that weird pink lip color doing nothing for us aside from giving us major bubblegum vibes, but the fact that it was paired with the dark-winged eye makeup is a total headscratcher.
The fact that the knock-off bad swan from Swan Lake look wasn't enough; she had to go ahead and add a mask of highlighter. Yes, when we say mask, we mean it looks like an actual mask is painted around her eyes. It's especially noticeable with the lines of bronzer going down her cheekbones.
Kylie And Kris Jenner Should Have Looked In A Mirror
It's really not good when you own a beauty empire and then wind up on a list of celebrities with the worst makeup fails. Sorry, Kylie, but that white chin just isn't doing it for us. And pairing it with those sunglasses that are taking up half of your face, we're getting big skeleton vibes coming from you.
And, Kris, we know that you know what the phrase "blending foundation" means. But, from the look of this red carpet picture, the concept was thrown out the window. Well, there's always next time, we suppose.
Melissa Joan Hart Took Too Much Inspo From Frozen
While actress Melissa Joan Hart looks very fresh with her light makeup and curled hair for the Frozen premiere, someone should have told her to go a bit lighter on the powder. We understand you're about to watch Frozen, a movie set in snow and ice, but that doesn't mean you actually have to channel your inner Elsa.
It literally looks like someone took a fine white powder with their fingers and sprinkled it over her nose and forehead. A bit of blending would have done the trick for this makeup fail. Either that or just don't worry about applying makeup before leaving for a dark movie theater.
Christina Aguilera Channeling Her Inner Pink Alien
We're sorry, but did no one tell Christina Aguilera that the statement pink eyeshadow, blush, dress, and earrings was just too much? Seriously, the singer looks like she's about to whip out into a belting rendition of "I Will Survive" with this bizarre alien look.
If she was going for an out-of-this-world look, she certainly succeeded. But we're going to have to say this is a fail for the otherwise very beautiful singer. The thin brows and insta-tan are very classic early X-tina, so they get a pass. But it's hard to believe she allowed her makeup artist to use bright pink eyeshadow as a bronzer on her temples.
Drew Barrymore Went With The Wrong Shade
When you're already a fair person, there is nothing worse than going with the wrong shade of foundation. Especially if that shade just so happens to make you look like a creepy ghost in a Tim Burton movie. Poor Drew Barrymore would have looked stunning if not for the too-light foundation and over-application of powder.
Like, Drew, we know you played a major role in E.T., but that doesn't mean you have to look like a crazy alien on the red carpet. Take note, folks, getting the right shade for your skin tone is key to not looking like an alien or ghost.
Ariana's Foundation Is Three Shades Too Light
We're not entirely sure who was in charge of Ariana Grande's makeup for the 2015 American Music Awards, but they might need to get their eyes checked. Looking between the singer's shoulder, chest, and neck, then back to her face, it's clear that her foundation is about three shades too light.
And when the already-light foundation is mixed with the countless lights that are most likely on that red carpet, Grande is left with a washed-out and sickly look, especially paired with that pale lip. We're going to take a wild guess and say that is probably not the look the pop star was going for.
Nicki Minaj And The Case Of The Failed Nose Contour
Like so many before her, Nicki Minaj fell victim to the oh-so-obvious nose contour fail. While the rest of her makeup looks totally fine, the singer's nose is another story altogether. There are two very distinct lines running down either side of Minaj's nose.
And, if her facial expression is any indication, it seems as though the rapper knows something is wrong. Maybe she crossed her eyes and noticed how her nose was oddly dark on either side. Who knows! What we do know is that this makeup fail is in serious need of a beauty blender.
Eva Longoria Missed A Spot...Or Two
The thing about makeup is that you most definitely have to look in the mirror before leaving the house. This is doubly true when it comes to celebrities because they might end up looking like they have reverse-raccoon eyes like Eva Longoria, and then be captured in a photo taken by the paparazzi.
Eva, you have a darker skin tone. This is not news to you. You should know that you have to blend in any setting powder very well, or else it's going to look overly white underneath your eyes.
Kelly Osbourne's Witchy Complexion
There have been a lot of makeup fails on this list, but Kelly Osbourne's might be the most extreme. We know the daughter of rock and roll legend Ozzy enjoys changing up her style every so often, but we didn't think her catalog of looks included a green skin tone.
Her face is almost a witchy green color, something that is better suited for a Disney movie than a red carpet appearance. The tone paired with the pale pink lips just isn't working, especially when the multi-toned hair is added into the equation.
Drew Went So Heavy On The Powder That It Got Into Her Hair
Honestly, we're not sure if this qualifies as a makeup fail because it's so impressive. Drew Barrymore, or her makeup artist for this event, went so hard on her powder that it literally got into the curls of her hairline!
The superhero shape of the powder is so confusing that we're not sure if Barrymore actually wanted to look like a weird type of makeup fail superhero on the carpet or if she's literally unaware of what she looks like. Either way, this is not a good look.
Elizabeth Mitchell Fell Victim To The White Undereye Stripe
Do people in Hollywood just not see the white streaks under their eyes? Or are we making this up, and the over-accentuated powder isn't there? We don't think that's the case, though. We think Lost actress Elizabeth Michell is yet another victim of the white stripes.
The fail here is the pairing with the very dark eye makeup, which only works to make that distinct stripe more prominent on her face. This goes to show that you should definitely blot, pat, and blend, before walking out the door to red carpet events! Or, any event, for that matter.
Did Khloe Kardashian Mix Up Her Self Tanner And Hand Lotion?
The Kardashian and Jenner clan is known to always be dolled up with head to toe makeup, something that probably comes with the territory of being related to a beauty empress. With that being said, Khloe should have contacted said empress when she was trying to figure out what type of lotion to use on her hands.
It's the only explanation as to why her fingers are weirdly darker than the rest of her hand and her face, for that matter. Either she needs to contact Kylie for a new brand, or she completely mixed up her self tanner and hand lotion.
Kim K Even Has Sells Own Contouring Kit
We're sorry, but when you sell your own contouring kit, you shouldn't leave a blatant brown line running down the length of your nose. Kim Kardashian doesn't seem to notice her epic makeup fail, though, as she's all smiles walking through a crowd in Paris, France.
Unfortunately for the reality star, not even her short blonde hair could draw attention from the fact that a pencil line is running down her face. We noticed it, the camera noticed it, and we'd be willing to bet money that the people gathered around the catch a glimpse of the celebrity also noticed it.
Aubrey O'Day, There Is A Thing As Too Much Shading
So, it looks as though Aubrey O'Day never learned when enough is enough, especially when it comes to putting makeup on your face. The orangey bronzer aside, we're mostly talking about the lack of blending going on, on either side of her nose and paired with the t-zone highlighter.
It looks like she used the same process used by artists in comic books to get that skinny look for her nose -- literally like it was drawn on using a marker. And the bright highlighter isn't helping matters, only bringing more attention to the non-bended area.
Taraji P. Henson Fell Victim To White Undereyes
It's something that we're growing accustomed to seeing on this list, white undereyes. It seems as though actress Taraji P. Henson also fell victim to this makeup fail. This look isn't something anyone should strive for, especially a celebrity on the red carpet.
Alas, here she is, in all her white-tops-of-cheekbones glory. Honestly, considering how arched her brows are, the white powder makes her eyes look almost sunken-in. Our takeaway from this fail: blending is our best friend.
Noomi Rapace Went A Bit Hard With The Setting Powder
Does anyone else think actress Noomi Rapace looks like she just came from an epic food fight that consisted solely of flour? We certainly do. While the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo actress is known to have more of an edgy look, we don't think caked-on white powder was part of her intended style for this 2015 fashion show.
Considering how many lights and flashes celebrities encounter on a day to day basis, it's amazing to us that none seem to realize white powder looks different in different lighting. As in, if the lighting is very bright, the powder is going to be very noticeable!
Nicki Minaj's Jaw Is Way Darker Than Her Foundation
Where, oh, where, to start with Nicki Minaj's makeup at this American Idol carpet event? How about the thing that our eye keeps darting to: the weird line of bronzer that makes it look as though the singer is sporting a five o'clock shadow. We're not sure, but we think some blending would have done the trick.
Although, we're not really sure what blending it into that bright pink blush would do. Which brings us to our second issue. The bubblegum pink lips and blush do not do anything for her. Tack on the bright turquoise eyeshadow, and we have an epic fail.
