What Is Love? Celebrities That Couldn’t Help But Go Back To Their Ex
Hollywood relationships are fickle; while some age beautifully like Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, others endure more drama than an episode of Jersey Shore. When talking about the latter, it's typically because the couple pulls a Bennifer and has a very public break up and wind up getting back together with their ex.
But Ben Affleck and JLo aren't the only celebrity couple who has tried romance more than once. Keep scrolling for some of the juicy details.
Adam Levine & Behati Prinsloo
They might be happily married now, but Adam Levine wasn't about that "husband life" when he first started dating Victoria's Secret model Behati Prinsloo. In fact, Levine broke up with the model in 2013 and started dating Sports Illustrated model Nina Agdal. Obviously, the Maroon 5 singer has a type.
Alas, Levine went crawling back to Prinsloo not long after their break-up. This time, he proposed. The two were married in 2014 and now have two daughters, Dusty Rose and Gio Grace.
Justin Timberlake & Jessica Biel
In 2011, people began thinking love was a farce when singer Justin Timberlake and actress Jessica Biel went their separate ways after almost five years of dating. According to a source, their romance had just run its course, and the break-up was a mutual decision.
Their split didn't last long, and the couple got back together in July of that year. Less than a year later, Timberlake popped the question, and they were married in a beautiful Southern Italian wedding in 2012. They now have two kids together, and fans can re-believe in love.
Chris Evans & Jenny Slate
In one of the more amicable break-ups comes actors Chris Evans and Jenny Slate. The two met in 2015 before they began dating in 2016. But their timing was off, as Slate had just separated from her ex-husband only months before. But, it's Chris Evans, so she gave their romance another shot only a few months after their initial break-up.
After getting more than one person's hopes up that Captain America had finally found true love, the pair split up again! Their conflicting schedules were just too much for either of them to have a serious relationship. Sigh.
Patrick Dempsey & Jillian Fink
McDreamy actor Patrick Dempsey was in a dream when he married his second wife, Jillian Fink, in 1999. The two met a few years earlier when Dempsey walked into her salon to get a haircut. Pretty much, their romance is straight out of one of the actor's rom-coms.
Even so, Finks wasn't going to deal with Dempsey's alleged gambling issues, and they went their separate ways in 2015. Fink even filed for divorce! But the two realized they were stronger together, and they didn't want to live without one another. So, the divorce was never filed, and the two got back together.
Halsey & G-Eazy
Fans were excited when relationship rumors between artists Halsey and G-Eazy became fact in 2017. But, seriously, they weren't really keeping things a secret considering their collaboration on "Him & I." But apparently, their love was really "the crazy kind" because, after a whole bunch of drama, the two went their separate ways in 2018.
But when a couple is the definition of "relationship goals," they're bound to get back together eventually. And they did. Halsey and G-Eazy went crawling back to each other in a perfect display of on-again-off-again romance for the next few months. They finally called it in 2019.
Kourtney Kardashian & Scott Disick
Drama seems to follow the Kardashian clan and Kourtney is no different. The year 2006 was the start of her and Scott Disick's relationship, something that even the tabloids had a hard time keeping up with, as their romance was littered with scandals and public arguments.
Even so, Kourtney kept going back to Scott and had three children with him. On numerous occasions, Scott has said that he and Kourtney are end game but considering their on-again-off-again history, the statement is a bit questionable.
Gabrielle Union & Dwyane Wade
Gabrielle Union first met Dwyane Wade at a Super Bowl party in 2007. The two hit it off right away and wound up dating for the next four years. Alas, they didn't go the distance at first, mutually deciding to take a step back from their relationship to "figure things out" (heard that one before).
Around April 2013, they decided to give their love another go. Wade wasn't about to let Union out of his sight again, and a few months later, he got down on one knee with an 8.5-carat cushion-cut diamond. She said yes, and the two have been married ever since.
Kristen Bell & Dax Shepard
Frozen star Kristen Bell and comedian Dax Shepard weren't always the happily married couple they are today. In fact, at one point in time, Dax broke up with the quirky actress. The two first began dating in 2007 and, soon after, Dax sat the actress down, telling her that he wasn't done "dating other people."
But, it's KBell, and Dax quickly realized the mistake he made. He came back a few days later and proposed in 2009. The two have been married since 2013 and have two children together.
Gigi Hadid & Zayn Malik
One Direction fans mourned in 2015 when Zayn Malik became officially off the market. That year, he began dating supermodel Gigi Hadid in what would become one of the longest games of "are they on or are they off this month" in Hollywood.
But after years of an on-again-off-again relationship, plus a bit of groveling and asking for a second chance, Gigi took Zayn back for good in 2019. Then, in 2020, the couple announced they were having a child together. Nothing like a baby to bring a couple together.
Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos
Considering Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos met on the set of a soap opera, some would think their relationship would be full of drama. However, the All My Children alumni are dubbed Hollywood's Mom and Dad, having an old-school relationship with, wait for it, all their children.
But it wasn't always smooth sailing. The two actually split just one day before their wedding! Apparently, the fight they had wasn't all that important because the very next day they left for Las Vegas and eloped. No need for an extravagant wedding here!
Rachel Bilson & Hayden Christensen
After filming the 2008 box office failure Jumper, it didn't take long for Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen to get romantically involved. The Star Wars actor was so smitten with the O.C. alum that he popped the question that very same year. That was a mistake.
The two never made it down the aisle, breaking off their engagement in 2010. Apparently, the whole long-distance relationship wasn't working out for them. Even so, Bilson and Christensen were still very much in love with one another and got back together a few months later. But 2017 was the year when they split for good.
Chrissy Teigen & John Legend
Fans of singer John Legend and television personality Chrissy Teigen might be surprised to learn that they weren't always on the same page. Once, while John was on tour, he actually attempted breaking up with Chrissy! Of course, with her demure personality (yes, that's sarcasm), she wasn't about to let that happen.
When John came out and told her now-wife that he would like to be single, she told him no. The two have now been married since 2013 and have two children together.
Bella Hadid & The Weeknd
Bella Hadid and The Weeknd are another one of those Hollywood couples that didn't know if they wanted to be together or not. First getting together in 2015, the two found themselves playing the "will they stay together this month" game more than once.
From scheduling conflicts to The Weeknd getting cozy with Selena Gomez, the pair hit more than one roadblock. After each split, one or the other would come running back to their romance. However, as of 2021, the two are "off again."
Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth
The love story between singer Miley Cyrus and actor Liam Hemsworth starts with the 2010 film The Last Song. They met on the set and had a summer filled with jet skiing, beach days, and a whirlwind romance that ended with Hemsworth popping the question in 2012.
A year later, they called off the engagement. Apparently, they "needed to go their separate ways." It took a few years, but the couple got back together, and the wedding was back on! But that wasn't the end of their crazy romance. After getting married in 2018, they officially split in 2019 as they were both "evolving."
Courteney Cox & Johnny McDaid
For what it's worth, Courteney Cox is apparently the queen of bouncing back after a long relationship. Directly after her divorce from David Arquette in 2013, she began seeing Snow Patrol pianist Johnny McDaid. It didn't take long for the musician to pop the question.
But with Cox wanting to stay in California and McDaid wanting to move back home to Ireland, the two called it quits. Apparently, a year is the magic number for this particular couple because a year after they broke off the engagement they were back together! Is there a wedding in the future? They'll probably let the public know in a year.
Emma Roberts & Evan Peters
Emma Roberts and Evan Peters's relationship started when the two met on the set of Adult World in 2012. And, as it would turn out, their relationship was pretty much a slew of mixed signals. A year after they began dating, Roberts was arrested. The red flag was enough for Peters to break things off with the actress.
But, obviously not enough because they got back together in 2014 and were engaged soon after. The ring was just another piece of jewelry, though, since the two couldn't seem to get on the same page. They called things off for good in 2019.
Justin Bieber & Hailey Baldwin
To say Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin had a dramatic love affair would be a vast understatement. After meeting when Hailey was only 12 years old, the two remained good friends until they began dating in 2016. After a flurry of flirty pictures, their romance seemed to come to an abrupt halt.
According to Hailey, "There was a period where if I walked into a room, he would walk out." Yikes. But even that drama didn't sway the Biebs from reconnecting with his future wife. The two began packing on the PDA in 2018. Not long after, Justin popped the question.
Chloë Grace Moretz & Brooklyn Beckham
In one of the most Hollywood meetings imaginable, Chloë Grace Moretz and Brooklyn Beckham met during a SoulCycle class in 2014. It was the start to years of being on and off again, per the typical Tinsel Town recipe of relationships. Their first breakup occurred in 2015, but it wasn't long before they both wanted to get back together.
But the two weren't ready for young love, splitting once again in 2017. But their hearts were still with one another until their actual "we are totally done with one another" split in 2018. Beckham has been engaged to Nicola Peltz since 2020.
Jennifer Lopez & Ben Affleck
Singer Jennifer Lopez and actor Ben Affleck took the world by storm when they got engaged in 2002, two years after their initial meeting. But, as fate would have it, they met at the wrong time in their lives. Two days before they were supposed to say "I do," they called off the wedding to go their separate ways.
Fast-forward to 2021, and Bennifer is back and better than ever! First, the two were spotted on vacation together. Then, Ben was caught wearing a watch JLo gave him. Fans can only hope the next step is going to be a ring. But who knows with these two!
Rose Leslie & Kit Harrington
Honestly, their steamy on-screen Game of Thrones romance is probably what prompted Rose Leslie and Kit Harrington to make it a reality. First getting together in 2011, the two actors were very hush-hush about their relationship, so much so that people weren't exactly sure what to think when they broke up in 2013.
But Leslie's romance with some mystery man didn't last, and she got back together with her GoT co-star a year later. After a few years, Harrington announced their engagement. In 2018, they wed and in 2021 they welcomed their first child, a son.
