Tudder: The Dating App For Livestock
While dating apps have proven to be an effective method for people to meet each other and maybe start a relationship, the founders of Tudder figured that it could work for selling livestock as well. Tudder, a combination of “Tinder” and “udder” lets farmers swipe right at cattle that they are interested in buying for reasons such as mating with their own cattle. When they swipe right, they are taken to the website SellMyLivestock where the user can view more specific details and pictures of the animal before making a purchase.
Such details include milk yield and protein content, calving potential and any other factors that may affect a buyer’s decision. Doug Bainer, who is the CEO of the company that runs SellMyLivestock explained: “Matching livestock online is even easier than it is to match humans because there’s a huge amount of data that sits behind these wonderful animals that predict what their offspring will be.”
The app was launched on Valentines Day 2019 and is marketing itself as the first-ever matchmaking app for livestock. It works almost identical as Tinder with the user choosing a preferred gender, some other details, and then swiping left for no and right for yes. It’s expected to simplify the buying process for farmers around the country, as well as more humane for the animal who isn’t uprooted from their home and put on an auction block.
